Key function of roleThe Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be the ?hands-on? design of the solution, both overlooking the electrical design of the product whilst implementing de-risking and design proving techniques to ensure the design is fit for purpose, compliant with all technical and legislative requirements and suitable for manufacture. In addition to this they will have the ability to technically analyse the functionality and suitability of a design solution in line the specified technical and legislative requirements and document this within a range of formal documents for customer approval. For this it is necessary for the engineer to have the following:

  • Degree Qualified with MOD or Aerospace/Defence or Marine Technical experience (min 5 years)
  • Power & Electrical Design capability - Including System design & Component Selection
  • Proven Control and Instrumentation design capability
  • Relevant experience - Variable Speed Drives, Motor Starter panels, Distribution systems, PLC and Control systems (ProfiBus or ProfiNet/TIA portal)
  • FMEA & Safety Capabilities - Ability to write and carry out Safety Assessments + Reliability analysis
  • Understanding of Testing & Automation - National Instruments (NI) Hardware & Labview
  • Ability to use E-Plan & Solidworks Electrical would be an advantage

Responsibilities and tasks

  • Production of Solidworks electrical / E-Plan detail electrical drawings (schematic and wiring) and Bills of Materials to support the detail design and conversion to manufacture.
  • Production of the necessary design documentation to substantiate the design and application to the project (performance calculations, test plans, material and component selection justifications, etc.).
  • Take responsibility for the technical compliance of the electrical design to the customer?s
  • specifications, including (but not limited to) Safety and Legislative compliance.
  • Document the technical compliance of the electrical design to the customer?s specifications, including (but not limited to) Safety and Legislative compliance.
  • Work with the mechanical engineers to ensure a completely integrated solution is developed.
  • Follow the design process to ensure all mitigations and approvals of the design are in place at the correct stage.
