Job Title:                            Lighting Design Manager Job Summary/OverviewResponsible for the efforts, results, and success of the organisation's lighting design department. Provides technical advice and support to help the business make key decisions. To contribute to the attainment of the company's business objectives by:
  • Providing strategic, technical, and lighting design guidance to ensure that the company's design and commercial commitments are met.
  • Developing all necessary policies and procedures to ensure sound lighting design decisions are made.
  • To support the sales and customer service teams to deliver exceptional customer service and exceed sales & profit budgets in line with the sales strategy and business plan.
  • Acting as a champion and ambassador of the company, its values, mission and purpose to our customers.
 Main Responsibilities & Duties
  • Achieve company Sales & Profit budget
  • Provide lighting design support to both internal and external customers
  • Identify innovative solutions for the development of new product solutions
  • Increase commercial opportunities through enhanced technical competence
  • Provide lighting calculations and designs on behalf of internal and external customers
  • Support lighting payback calculations (ROI) on a project-by-project basis in order to meet customer expectations
  • Support the growth of the business and sales team by working closely with customers:
    • Undertaking and performing site surveys and customer meetings o Liaising with customers directly on their lighting design schemes

  • Provide technical support to both internal and external customers
  • Provide product datasheets and related information for all products
  • Generation and management of electronic design files (BIM, CAD, DIALux etc)
  • Manage all product data required for information and quotation purposes
  • Be knowledgeable and able to apply relevant industry and segment guidelines, standards and regulatory requirements and be able to translate these to the sales team
  • Maintain an orderly workflow according to priorities
  • Maintaining accurate records (CRM)
  • Being knowledgeable about products and services offered by the business
  • Being aware of market trends and competitors
  • Assist in development of systems and procedures to make your role more successful
  • Maintain a positive attitude that promotes a culture of growth through sales across the business
  • Continue the philosophy to always communicate effectively, providing a knowledgeable and intimate service to all internal and external customers.
 Additional Responsibilities & Duties
  • Improve the presentation of schemes to customers so that they are much more informative. A picture board presentation so that the customer sees the calculations and images of product so they understand what’s being proposed and where
  • Assistance with design reviews for new products as required
  • Assisting with maintenance of company website (providing datasheets and LDT files)
  • Increase efficiency and service levels both internally and externally via ongoing maintenance and development of Microsoft Dynamics and any other suitable software packages
  • Maintain and protect company assets including phone, computer and other equipment issued to the employee.
  • Managing & reviewing responsibilities with Freelance Lighting Designers
 Specific TasksDaily
  • Updating CRM software with all customer interactions
  • Manage workload to ensure proactive completion of tasks with customer always coming first
  • Answering customer lighting queries
 Weekly
  • Production of product documents o Creating datasheet
o  LDT files
  • Lighting design schemes for customers
  • Assisting CST & BDM's with customer take offs
 Monthly
  • Proactive monthly technical report of activity, performance, data and updates
Quarterly
  • Update company employees on relevant changes to industry standards and regulations
Annually
  • Review technical software requirements and renew appropriate licenses
  • Review and analyse lighting and product design requirements for the year. Look for trends and make recommendations 
Qualifications & Skills
  • Minimum of HND/Degree in Engineering or Science based subject or equivalent technical competence
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant lighting industry experience with team management and technical and commercial submissions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current British and European Standards relating to lighting
  • High level of technical knowledge relating to lighting products and associated components
  • A high level of IT literacy
  • An excellent working knowledge of CAD, light planning software (Dialux or Relux) and BIM.
  • Able to engage effectively with staff at all levels with different levels of technical knowledge.
