Overview 

Horizonscan Limited is a consultancy business specialising in resilience, crisis management, risk management, and business continuity. We are employee-owned, and our purpose is to make organisations more resilient. Reporting to the Head of Consultancy, you will join a high-performance team of consultants and help support the delivery of business continuity, crisis management, risk management, and organisational resilience services to our clients. We work with pharmaceutical, manufacturing, medical products, clean power, universities, charities, infrastructure, technology, and food sector clients.

 

About you 

We are looking for an experienced individual to complement and enhance our growing team. To meet our requirements, you must:

  • be capable of and enjoy international work and travel as this forms a core part of the role
  • bring relevant experience from the private or public sector and or a degree in a related field


We are particularly interested in people from the emergency services or those with local authority or private sector resilience, business continuity, emergency planning, disaster management, ISO standards or auditing experience.


Important notes

  • This is an experienced hire position. The position is unsuitable for recent graduates unless you also have 3-5 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • This is a full time role based at our head office in Broadstairs, Kent. Typical office hours are 0900 to 1700, Monday to Friday. You must be able to travel to and work from this location in line with our hybrid working
  • For your probationary period, you will be primarily office-based. On completion of your probation, our current hybrid working policy requires a minimum of 1 day a week in the office
  • The role involves direct client interaction and international travel. Client travel may mean that up to 40% of your working hours are spent away from your usual place of work. Due to the nature of our travel and contractual requirements, you must hold a UK or EU passport


Consultant Role Responsibilities

  • Creating client documents, this includes Policies, Business Continuity Plans (BCPs), Crisis Simulation Exercise (CSE) reports, Readiness Assessment reports, Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and Risk Registers
  • Researching and developing exercise scenarios
  • Supporting and delivering client project work
  • Client engagement (conference calls, emails, meetings)
  • Taking responsibility for specific workstreams within a client contract – e.g., report writing, and documentation reviews
  • Project Management (tracking hours/deliverables of the project and reporting these to the client)
  • Assisting in delivering presentations, running training sessions online, etc.
  • Continual personal and professional development (developing commercial and sector specific knowledge through reading, attending webinars, training, etc, and attending courses as directed)
  • Maintaining professional membership status of relevant professional organisations as required (e.g., Business Continuity Institute, Institute of Risk Management, Disaster Recovery Institute etc.)
  • Supporting and contributing to internal innovation projects to help us improve and grow
  • Reporting to and supporting Lead/Senior Consultants and others as required.
  • Supporting the development of junior members of the team including our Graduate Consultants
  • Organising visits to clients (travel, accommodation, itineraries)
  • Representing and promoting Horizonscan at events/webinars/networking events/social media channels
  • Maintaining accurate records on our time management platform
  • Maintaining strict client confidentiality


Essential requirements

  • Excellent communication skills and a natural problem solver with a “can do” attitude
  • The right to live and work in the United Kingdom without restrictions
  • UK or EU passport (due to the entry requirements for the countries where we operate)
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in risk, crisis management, business continuity, emergency response or related organisational resilience fields
  • The ability to spend up to 40% of your time travelling nationally and internationally
  • Experienced driver with a valid UK or EU driving licence, you should be confident driving abroad
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365


Desirable

  • Proficiency in a second language
  • Hold professional certification from the Business Continuity Institute (BCI), Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI), Institute of Risk Management (IRM), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) or relevant organisations
  • A degree with a focus on Risk, Sustainability, Psychology, Communications, Environmental, Insurance, Education, Business Management or Economics
  • Experience with ISO management systems and/or internal audit
  • Real-word knowledge and experience from an in-house risk/resilience role or the emergency services/local authority/military


Salary


The starting salary for this full-time consultancy role ranges from £37,000 to £42,000 depending on your skills and experience, with opportunities for pay progression and promotion in future years. We are truly committed to investing in our people and you will have access to a substantial annual training budget to support your professional development.
