Role: Terminal Operator
Reports to: Terminal Manager/Terminal Supervisor
Located: Jarrow Terminal
The role
The terminal operator’s main function is to ensure safety of people on site, co-ordinate daily terminal activities, carry out regular inspection of facilities and equipment to ensure safety and functionality and taking appropriate responsive actions to mitigate deficiencies.
Understanding that the terminal is a COMAH site and take responsibility to know all the Major Accident Hazard scenarios for the site.
Be accountable for receiving, storing, transferring, and loading of petroleum products via trucks, rail cars in a safe manner.
Take responsibility for the accurate testing of products and documentation of results.
There is a Shift Pattern on 24/7 shift basis which include nights, weekends and bank holidays the shifts are 12 hours starting at either 06:00 days or 18:00 nights.
Principal Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the safe operation of the terminal; maintain awareness for personal and co-worker’s safety.
- Ensure all work tasks are carried out in compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Perform gauging of storage tanks, temperature readouts and obtaining product samples.
- Take responsibility for completing all daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual maintenance activities which include which include COMAH critical tasks, inspections and function test. Maintain required logs as appropriate.
- Complete daily meter readings for all products. Calculate and input all product inventories and meter readings into appropriate systems.
- Ensure that all Terminal equipment, including safety devices and systems are functioning properly and be responsible for reporting all equipment failures on the Terminal Computerised Maintenance Management System (Agility) and directly to the Terminal Supervisor. Report near misses, accidents, and incidents on the Terminals SHEQ Reporting and Action tracking Systems (My Compliance).
- Perform daily walk around inspections to identify any potential risks, defects or breakdowns on site. Ensure good housekeeping standards are always maintained.
- Complete monthly documentation for all volumetric additive reconciliations.
- Issue work permits to contractors performing work at the Terminal. Includes ensuring that pre-job safety meetings, lockout - tag-out, confined space entry, and gas test monitoring requirements are met for all work performed at the Terminal.
- Supervise and audit contracted works at the Terminal when required.
- Ensure that all contractors, customers, and visitors follow the Terminal Safety Rules
- Uphold SHEQ standards at the Terminal and promote a strong safety culture in all site activities.
- Be responsible to communicate possible product outages.
- Participate in emergency exercises as required.
- Performing small repairs and maintenance work within skill sets, as advised by the Terminal Manager/Terminal Supervisor.
- Ensure environmental standards are maintained at the Terminal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications/experience
- Oil & gas/ Chemical plant experience Desirable.
- At least 3 GCSE’s including Maths and English.
- Understanding of process safety desirable.
