This is the perfect role for a Technical Specialist / Chief Engineer who still wants to get involved in the fun engineering stuff but also impart wisdom, experience and technical leadership to a small team of highly skilled mechanical design engineers.
Responsibilities: Technical Specialist - Mechanical Design
- Working within a consultancy setting as a Technical Specialist / Chief Engineer, you will lead a small mechanical design team on the design, analysis and development of cutting edge transmission, driveline and actuation systems for marine, aerospace, automotive and off-highway markets.
- You will remain technically hands on with the design of the system and components from concept through prototype testing but be on hand to support the team, aid with technical issues and lead large customer programmes.
- You will liaise with customers, negotiate project terms, manage timing and resource allocation and present to customers with project updates etc.
- Hands on first principal engineering through design tools, calculations, analysis, simulation, drawings and technical reporting
Skills required: Technical Specialist – Mechanical Design
- 20+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering and design of complex, high-speed rotating systems across any industry sector (Machinery, Downhole Oil & Gas, Electric motors, Pumps, Engines, Compressors etc)
- A deep rooted understanding of technical, mechanical engineering problems and how to solve them using first principle methods in order to support and give guidance to the team
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Demonstrate that you have current and relevant experience in designing a product or system to a set of requirements, using CAD, analysing components and creating manufacturing drawings
- Successfully supported large, key client projects both technically and commercially
- Proficiency in key software packages within design engineering (SMT MASTA, Romax, Creo, UGNX, Catia etc)
Additional:
- The command of a foreign language is a benefit, particularly, French, German or Korean
- Awareness of the commercial approach of a consultancy business will be advantageous
