Veterinary Surgeon

Our client is a global drug discovery and development research organisation, brining therapies in both Animal and Human Health to the market effectively. We’re looking to recruit a Veterinary Surgeon, to join a team of passionate staff, where you can make a significant impact on animal health and welfare while expanding your veterinary expertise beyond traditional practice. The Veterinary Surgeon will provide crucial veterinary input across various areas of the client’s operations. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Named Veterinary Surgeon(s) to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines
  • Develop and maintain expertise in laboratory animal science and related disciplines through ongoing education and training
  • Provide veterinary cover for animal units and clinical services at the facilities
  • Support the implementation of new techniques, procedures, and technologies to enhance animal care and welfare
  • Engage with stakeholders to promote a culture of care and professionalism within the company
  • Provide advice and assistance to staff on the implementation of the three Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) principles
  • Deputise for senior veterinary staff as needed and support staff training and development
  • Comply with regulatory, quality, and health and safety procedures, including maintaining records and obtaining necessary accreditations


Requirements:

  • Veterinary degree with professional registration with the RCVS
  • Experience in general practice or laboratory animal care, including surgical skills
  • Auditing or inspection experience is advantageous
  • Strong commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with teams
  • Proficiency in surgical procedures and anaesthesia
  • Interest or experience in animal ethics, welfare science, genetics, or related disciplines is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and adapt to evolving challenges
