Key Responsibilities
  • We are looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to provide vital Information Technology network services to Ofgem. You will be responsible for day-to-day network infrastructure support and strategic and tactical enhancements. These include migrating core services to the cloud (Azure) and upgrading on-premises network technology.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and switching configuration and development of Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) architecture and supporting IT Network Infrastructure.
  • Identification and Implementation of technical improvements and upgrades to the network infrastructure.
  • Working closely with the CTO function and support teams to enhance, manage and maintain the existing network covering development, staging and live environments. You will be responsible for supporting our remote working, existing core network implementation and configuration alongside end-to-end troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on support with the Microsoft Azure Cloud Network Services (e.g. Front Door, WAF and Virtual Cloud Networking) and experience of Windows/Linux server network infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot complex incidents and project escalations, and the ability to learn new skills/technologies both on-the-fly and with Support via colleagues or training.
  • Leading and communicating insights and vendor & framework best practices with peers and stakeholders on these service improvements.
  • Documenting our Networking Services, project documentation, and incident remediation or information for security purposes.

Key Outputs and Deliverables
  • Lead and work within CDIO function to refresh, design, build, and operate our Cloud and on-premises network services.
  • Design, Support and implement solutions using networking services, such as SD-WAN, MPLS, Core, Edge and Access Networking, Wi-Fi and IPSEC VPN
  • Monitor and troubleshoot cloud-based applications and services, automate cloud-based deployments using Azure DevOps.
  • Provide technical administration for the Continuity of Operations/Disaster Recovery architecture and planning.
  • Technical knowledge of Microsoft Azure and On-Prem network components and how they integrate with one another.
  • Provide documentation and resources to colleagues across Information Services, ensuring that all services are fully supported, and end users have access to appropriate technical Support and information.

Essential Criteria

We are looking for knowledge and experience in the following technologies:
  • (Lead criteria) Layer 2 and layer 3 switched and routed networks, preferably using Cisco hardware, preferably educated to CCNA and CCNP knowledge level (Routing and Switching).
  • (Lead criteria) Network Security, including on-premises, cloud and hybrid deployments. Implementation and configuration of SD-WAN networks, network monitoring, and network optimisation.
  • Cloud environments, specifically Azure, e.g. Transit Gateway, Azure Firewall.
  • Windows/ Linux Server Operating systems.
  • Routing protocols, in particular OSPF, EIGRP and BGP.
  • Configuration and management of remote access technologies.
  • WAN technologies, ideally MPLS and IPSEC VPN.

Desirable Criteria
  • Wireless LANs, preferably using Cisco Access Points, Network Access Control Systems such as Cisco ISE.
  • Disaster Recovery development, designs, and implementation.
