Building Surveyors (RP0034) Job Introduction Main Responsibilities The Ideal Candidate Package Description

Building Surveyors

Starting salary £40,689pa with potential progression to £43,690pa on achieving designated skills and experience

37 hours per week (hybrid working)

Do you have an eye for detail and experience of surveying, do you want to help improve the housing standards across our borough and increase customer satisfaction levels? Are you passionate about delivering the best service possible to our tenants? If so, we have the perfect role for you.

You will work part of our Property Maintenance team where no two days are the same. If you like genuine diversity in your Building Surveying work and are looking to learn new skills, then we have a fantastic opportunity for you.

We’re seeking Surveyors in three key areas: Planned Works, Voids, and Repairs.

At Welwyn Hatfield we’re committed to providing excellent service to our community. We’re making a significant investment into our housing stock, creating a chance for you to engage in a variety of exciting new projects.

About the roles:

Planned Works Surveyor

As a Planned Works Surveyor, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the delivery of our planned and cyclical investment programmes to the housing and commercial stock.

This includes working alongside our contractors and consultants, holding them accountable for their performance, providing technical advice, developing scopes of work and specifications for various projects, and liaising with customers to understand their requirements.

Repairs Surveyor

In the role of Repairs Surveyor, you’ll manage your own patch, consisting of around 2000 properties.

You’ll collaborate with contractors and the Neighbourhoods team to ensure timely, high-quality repairs. Your responsibilities will include attending sites to scope out larger repair jobs and keeping tenants updated on ongoing works.

Voids Surveyor

As a Voids Surveyor, your focus will be on ensuring void properties are turned around quickly and to a high standard.

You’ll work closely with contractors, Neighbourhoods, and allocation teams to keep everyone informed about the status of each void, ensuring properties meet tenants' expectations.

About you:

You will be customer focused and have great customer service skills and the ability to work autonomously to improve our property standards. You will have extensive experience in diagnosing building faults and delivering cost-effective solutions.

Your technical expertise will enable you to identify necessary repairs, develop detailed specifications, make sound technical decisions, and solve complex problems efficiently. A thorough understanding of current building regulations, building standards, and health and safety legislation is essential for these roles.

Your passion for delivering customer-focussed outcomes will be evident in your approach to work. You will have the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring that everyone involved understands the scope and progress of projects.

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council:

Our CORE values—Collaborative, Open, Responsible, Excellent—guide everything we do.

Closing date for applications is 1 December 2024.

Remote assessments will be held on 6 December 2024.

Interviews will be held on 11 December 2024.

About the Company In return, we can offer you:
  • Central locations in the Borough with excellent public transport links and local amenities
  • Automatic enrolment into the Local Government Pension Scheme (Career Average Pension Scheme)
  • The opportunity to buy and sell annual leave to increase work-life balance flexibility
  • Annual leave ranging from 25 to 33 days per year plus Bank Holidays (dependent on grade and length of service)
  • Access to the Council’s Flexi Time Scheme (post dependent) to achieve a healthy work life balance
  • A structured induction program from day 1 to support your success in your role
