Our Vision

Web3 has created a new era of decentralised finance, democratising financial access. However, it has fallen short in generating mass consumer applications and remains largely centred around finance. We believe blockchain technology is a cornerstone for the future of new, open Internet applications.

Today, there are limits to what you can build on-chain. Many factors constrain this, from the cost of running applications to the fundamental performance limitations of existing blockchains. We believe that new technologies can unlock a new class of real-time applications that normally must be built on Web2 foundations. Enabling these systems to be built on-chain will allow the free movement of businesses and users between online platforms, creating what we call a true virtual society.

We are building Somnia, a fast and cost-effective EVM-based blockchain, to achieve this. Somnia is a layer-one blockchain with full EVM compatibility, capable of processing over 400,000 transactions per second with sub-second latency and low fees. This will unlock a new wave of on-chain applications. Initially, we are focusing on gaming, metaverse, and social experiences. But we are not even 100% certain of what can be built with the technology we are creating.

Somnia is being developed by Virtual Society Foundation, an independent organisation initiated by Improbable, a British start-up that has been at the forefront of building virtual worlds for over a decade. VSF received initial funding from MSquared, which raised $150 million in funding from a16z crypto, SoftBank, Mirana Ventures, CMT Digital, and SIG.

Role Overview.

As a Business Developer at Somnia, your focus will be on identifying and closing business deals and partnerships that align with our company’s strategic goals. You will develop, maintain and nurture a pipeline of leads, partners, and strategic initiatives.

You will play a key role in shaping our strategy and product roadmap by tracking industry trends, monitoring competitors, and gathering external feedback to share with the team. Collaborating closely with the team, you’ll help develop and execute go-to-market strategies to achieve company targets, drive growth and shape product roadmap.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify business opportunities and strategic partnerships that are aligned with the company's overall goals.

  • Build and maintain a pipeline of leads, partners, and strategic initiatives.

  • Develop and execute successful GTM strategies in Web3, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet the targets.

  • Make our CRM the holy grail of our business development, ensuring it becomes the ultimate tool for driving, tracking, and optimizing all our bizdev efforts.

  • Collect feedback on the product, and communicate to the team to contribute to the product development and marketing strategies.

  • Follow industry trends, keep an eye on competitors, and provide insights to enhance the overall strategy.

  • Attend online and offline events to get leads and turn them into closed deals.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in business development in the blockchain space, preferably in early stage projects.

  • Experience in startups and setting up business development processes from scratch.

  • You don’t need to be a tech wiz, but you need to have enough technical knowledge to explain complex concepts to prospects and gauge their interest in Somnia.

  • Strong network of Web3 key players you can easily tap into.

  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful business and growth strategies for Web3 projects.

  • Previously worked with dApps and blockchain type of projects.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

About you:

  • You are a crypto degen, deep into NFTs, DAOs, DeFi, and Web3 in general.

  • You understand how the Web3 community thinks, and how to navigate the space.

  • You have a strong presence on X, Farcaster, and other Web3 channels.

  • You know how to mingle with the Web3 crowd, and have the right approach to get them to listen to you.

  • You are quick to grab every opportunity to talk business.

Salary:

USD 80,000 - 100,000 per annum

Role Location

The role is remote, but we are looking for someone based in Europe or Asia (preferably).

Reporting Lines

This role will report directly to the Managing Director of the Foundation
