Band 5 Staff Nurse

Due to promotion of staff, we now have some Band 5 vacancies on our Unit. If you are an enthusiastic nurse who would like to work with Neonates then look no further. Come and join our team of experienced and friendly Neonatal Nurses who provide specialist care to Neonates from 27 weeks gestation. We are a level 2 hospital within the North Central North East London Perinatal Network. We provide specialist care to neonates over 27 weeks gestation. The unit has a family-focused philosophy in which staff and parents work together in partnership to provide the highest standards of care and we actively support developmental care. There are opportunities to develop clinical skills in a highly supportive environment, with a Practice Educator and Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Annual Leave: 27 days per annum increasing to 29 days after 5 years NHS service and 33 days after 10 years NHS service. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care of a defined group of babies under the indirect supervision of a Band 6 or 7 nurse. Will demonstrate care/procedures and supervise qualified/unqualified staff as circumstances dictate. KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Lead Nurse, Unit Sisters, other nursing staff, Midwifery and RSCN students, Clinical Teachers, Medical Staff and managers of the M.A.T., Ancillary staff. Working for our organisation

1.1 For the Child and family Responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care to babies. Carries out relevant programmes of care without direct supervision. Co-operates with other disciplines as required to meet the needs of the baby and family. Facilitates family centred care providing information and support to families to enable them to care for their baby within the neonatal environment. Participates in the implementation of new research-based ideas in order to promote higher quality care. 5.2 Standards of Care Plans and delivers patient care that is safe, professional, compassionate and consistent with established patient care standards. Ensures that the postholder and all nursing staff act at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and the policy and guidelines provided by The Whittington Health. Attends study days, as nominated, providing feedback to the NICU and maintains own professional and educational knowledge within the speciality of neonatal care. 5.3 Education and Teaching Responsibilities Participates in the practical teaching of Foundations in Neonatal Care learners/midwifery/students nurses. Where appropriate, is able to give advice and demonstrations to parents. Assists in producing an environment conducive of continual learning for all staff. Participates in the orientation of new members of staff. 5.4 Communication Maintains efficient and effective communication with the NICU Sister or his/her deputy on all matters relating to the area of care of the baby and family. Informs the Ward Manager of any activity in the Unit, which affects patient care. Refers accidents, incidents and complaints to the Ward Manager. Person specification

Total Patient care of low dependency patients with moderate supervision Good communication skills - verbal and written Ability to organise own work Potential for caring for a stable high dependency neonate Knowledge and experience

Aware of own limitations Ability to plan, implement and evaluate care Awareness of current issues in the NHS Understanding of the principles of neonatal care Understanding of management issues Employer certification / accreditation badges
