Operations Director - Off Highway Platforms

An Operations Director is required to join a market-leading Innovative Industrial Off-Road Systems Company that is over 90 years old and is a leading UK supplier with significant growth expectations. This is an exceptional time to join the organisation. The Operations Director will report to the Managing Director/Executive and will be responsible for the Engineering Operations of a small but growing company, manufacturing platforms for Industrial Systems and related off-road products for the rail and mining sector. The products and size of platforms vary depending on the project and end client and are powered by Diesel, electric, battery, or hybrid technologies. The Operations Director will work with the Managing Director/Executive to facilitate a growth plan that delivers a greater customer reach to meet increased turnover/profitability demands while nurturing a culture of continuous improvement across specific areas of the business.
Essential Criteria
Degree in a related subject (BEng, BSc) - Membership of a relevant certified body or possession of an appropriate Management Qualification is desirable. Able to demonstrate a strong commercial and operations management background. Proven record in a similar role within an industrial/manufacturing or engineering environment. Extensive experience defining and managing best practice financial and operational management. Experience of successful management of budgets and projects. Ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally. Experience of customer and stakeholder management. Demonstrate a full understanding of Health and Safety practices. Understand and be able to create Risk assessments and Method Statements.
Key Responsibilities
Liaise with the Managing Director/Executive to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals. Plan and monitor the day-to-day running of the business to ensure smooth progress. Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business and operational procedures according to organisational objectives and apply improvements as required. Manage procurement processes and coordinate resources allocation appropriately. Oversee customer support processes and organise them to enhance customer satisfaction. Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote and improve profitability. Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation. Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors. Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analysing, and interpreting data and metrics. Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established systems.
Hours and Holidays
37 hours/week Some Hybrid/WFH working and flexi hours available if needed. 7.30 - 16.00 Mon to Thurs 7.30 - 12.30 Fri 25 days + 8 statutory holidays
Other Benefits (After successful 3-month probationary period)
Pension 4% employer contribution (+ 4% employee contribution). Death in Service equal to 4 x salary. Bonus scheme dependent on Company performance (Non-Contractual). Flexible working and Flexitime scheme. Healthcare Group Scheme membership.
