Highly Specialist Paediatric Community Dietitian

We are looking for an experienced part-time Paediatric Community Dietitian to cover maternity leave on a fixed term contract until August 2025. This is a part-time post (22.5 hours per week) and the hours are flexible. You will work within a team of Paediatric Community Dietitians and also as part of a multi-disciplinary feeding team comprising of a clinical psychologist, occupational therapist, and speech language therapist.

You will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality nutritional care to children within the community setting. Your responsibilities will include MDT feeding clinics and general community clinics, managing a caseload of nutrition support and home enteral feeding patients, running parent education groups, and conducting visits to nurseries and schools. You will work closely with the community paediatric speech therapists, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists. You will be expected to travel around Wandsworth borough using public transport. Our clinic locations are Eileen Lecky Clinic (Putney), St Therapy Centre (Clapham Junction), Queen Mary's Hospital (Roehampton), and Tooting Health Centre (Tooting).

Main duties of the job The wider dietetic department consists of over 60 dietitians, who provide clinical inpatient, outpatient, and community services to a variety of specialties including oncology, renal, neurology, haematology, paediatrics, cardiology, major trauma, gastro, surgical, diabetes, infectious diseases, and HIV.

The department is committed to training dietetic students and actively participates in the training programs of clinical and non-clinical staff. There are numerous opportunities for professional and personal development.

Conducting a weekly general community dietetics clinic to assess and advise patients on their nutritional needs. Conducting a weekly MDT Feeding clinic and advise patients on their nutritional needs. Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to plan and manage patient care. Organizing and running Feeding education workshops and groups for parents. Managing a caseload of nutritional support and growth monitoring patients.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training Essential

BSc (Honours) postgraduate degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent UK HCPC Current Registered Evidence of continuing professional development Desirable Post graduate training in speciality clinical area e.g. BDA Paediatric modules, SOS (Sequential-Oral-Sensory) and behaviour change Membership of BDA and relevant specialist group Experience / Knowledge Essential Postgraduate experience of working in acute and/or community paediatric dietetic services at a specialist level including enteral feeding Experience in the clinical supervision of students/junior staff Experience of multidisciplinary team working Experience in teaching and education to patient groups and healthcare professionals in relevant clinical area Desirable Experience of working in community services. Experience of working with children with sensory/behavioural or aversive/restricted feeding patterns Experience of working with children with physical, neurological and developmental disabilities Skills and Abilities Essential Good oral and written communication skills with people from a wide variety of backgrounds Ability to prioritise own workload and that of others Excellent IT skills Motivation and counselling skills Knowledge Essential Knowledge of dietetics within the NHS Knowledge of dietetics within specialist area including evidence of specialist training Working at Masters level or equivalent in speciality area Other Essential Able to respond to unpredictable work patterns and frequent interruptions Able to maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders Membership of British Dietetic Association or other body conferring professional indemnity insurance Employer details Employer name St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
