Main duties of the job
This post is integral to the delivery of OT activity within STAR with clear specifications around staffing ratios, timeliness of assessment functional retraining, and discharge planning of patients admitted to SGH.
The role is essential to support/facilitate flow and patient care through clinical pathways and the post supports the delivery of 7-day services.
Risk to patients: Increased length of stay with consequent risks to patient health and wellbeing. Increased likelihood of needing to admit patients to SGH vs being able to avoid admission and support patients returning to their own home. Poorer outcomes due to not receiving evidenced levels of input. Impact on patient experience, efficiency, and outcomes. Risk of failed discharges.
Risk to service: Poor compliance with ED standards with consequent impact on service rating. Reduced patient flow. Increase in unnecessary admissions to SGH. Increase in complaints and patient incidents.
Risk to staff: Extremely high risk of burnout and additional long-term sickness due to high pressure of service and recent long-term sickness in the team. Reduced access to training, support, and supervision.

Qualifications and Training
Essential Qualification in Occupational Therapy. Registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Health Professions Council. Continued Professional Development including evidence of reflective practice and clinical experience gained. Experience
Essential Completion of a core practice placement in a hospital or rehabilitation setting. Desirable Experience in any of the following clinical areas: Elderly, General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Community rehabilitation. Skills
Essential Clear demonstrable understanding of the OT process. Working knowledge of functional and standardised assessment tools. Excellent written and verbal communication in English language. Good clinical reasoning skills. Able to work harmoniously with a diverse workforce to deliver a quality service to people from different backgrounds. Able to work as part of a team. Flexible approach. Competent IT skills. Able to work at moderate to high levels of physical activity involving the delivery of manual therapy, therapeutic handling of patients and the assessment, demonstration and installation of adaptations and equipment.
