An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join our colorectal team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust on the Wexham Park site. Your role will support patients on the 'Enhanced Recovery Pathway' and also deliver both face-to-face and telephone clinics for patients who have undergone colorectal surgery for bowel cancer in line with the new stratified pathway. The role also supports patients on a best supportive care pathway, offering advice and guidance to patients in the community with incurable cancer. Main duties of the job

To be a point of contact/Key Worker for patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer at diagnosis, staging, during treatment and in the follow-up period, both face-to-face and via the telephone, and in helping to deliver the enhanced recovery programme (ERP) at ward level. If you have experience in caring for patients with colorectal cancer, within general surgery or endoscopy nursing, we would love to hear from you. This is a challenging but hugely rewarding position for which you will require excellent communication skills, be willing to learn, and have a desire to succeed. You will be fully supported in this by the existing team. About us

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will act as a Keyworker for a defined group of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer providing a link between patients and health care professionals across primary, secondary, and tertiary care and act as an advocate and ongoing support for patients/families. The post-holder will support the development and evaluation of the colorectal cancer service to improve and maintain standards of patient care and promote a seamless service within a multi-disciplinary framework. The post-holder will support the delivery of a comprehensive nurse-led service that is holistic in its approach, evidence-based, and meets the individual needs of colorectal cancer patients. The post requires the ability to work autonomously whilst being supported within a well-established cohesive nursing team. Work towards being a clinical expert in colorectal cancer with good communication skills. The role requires the ability to work autonomously and independently but within an integrated collaborative team. The post-holder will ensure their role reflects the core components of the clinical nurse specialist which includes clinical practice, management, education, research, and audit, taking into account the national cancer agenda and its impact on service delivery.
