A great opportunity for a band 5 Staff Nurse is available now. We are seeking applications from dedicated registered nurses with a background or interest in radiology to join our motivated, friendly and supportive team. We can offer you the opportunity of working within all different clinical areas in the department, including the Interventional and Neuro radiology suites, CT scan, Ultrasound and Recovery. Our education team provides structured support to all staff and our development programmes are well established, including courses affiliated to LSBU and KCL. It would be an advantage to have previous radiology, theatre scrub or recovery experience, but is not essential. Main duties of the job

The Interventional Radiology department runs a daytime service from Monday to Friday with varying shift patterns. With training, the post holder will also be expected to provide cover for our 24-hour on-call service, including weekends and bank holidays. With further training, the role would lead to involvement in the administration of intravenous conscious sedation, requiring advanced monitoring of patients during procedures. You would also be involved in the care and management of patients having ultrasound and CT guided procedures, for both inpatient and day cases, which may also involve working with the anaesthetic team. As part of your ongoing development, you will also be trained to be competent in working in Neuroadiology. The ideal candidate will be expected to demonstrate commitment to their own personal development and show keen interest in the future development of the profession and the imaging services. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Delivering a high standard of evidence-based care to patients. Ensuring good standards of care for the patient are maintained at all times. Adhering to NMC Code of Professional Conduct and standards for registration at all times. Supporting patients, relatives, carers, and friends and where appropriate involving them in the care of the patient. Promoting well-being and involving patients and relatives in health education. Ensuring that patients and relatives are given accurate information and advice on Radiological procedures. Ensuring contemporaneous record keeping at all times. To take responsibility for managing and coordinating the interventional suite as required. To rotate to other departments within the specialty as required (Interventional Radiology, Neuroradiology, Nuclear Medicine) or as identified as a personal development need in the appraisal process. To effectively manage a pre-assessment clinic when allocated to do so. To assist with the administration of intravenous injections of radiopharmaceuticals and other agents for diagnosis. Participating in the on-call service, and be available to support the service as rostered. Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN1) with active NMC registration at time of starting appointment. Experience and Skills

Demonstrable clinical expertise, relevant to the area. Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members. Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal).
