We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team. Applications are invited for a consultant post in cardiology at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals Trust. We are looking for a 12-month Locum Consultant Cardiologist post with an interest in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). The post will be mainly based at the Freeman Hospital. You will join a team of 13 interventional cardiologists (12 NHS and 1 PT academic interventional cardiologist). It is envisaged that the post-holder will contribute to the interventional service, including the full range of interventional techniques and provision of Primary PCI on-call cover. The post holder will be expected to work in close collaboration with the existing team of consultant cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and allied specialties. The post attracts 10 Programmed Activities per week for approximately a 1 in 11 on-call for intervention at Freeman Hospital and 1:16 CCU at RVI/Freeman Hospitals. In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research, and audit. Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee. The post-holder will have broad general cardiology skills with a special interest in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Responsibilities include developing and contributing to continuing education, professional development, audit, and research within the Division and the Trust. There is an expectation of collaborative working with colleagues, allied specialties, and liaison with other disciplines throughout the trust and network. Clinical: The post will form part of the consultant PCI on-call rota. PCI sessions will be in the on-call urgent cardiac catheter lab dealing with patients presenting with NSTEMI, STEMI, and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest from around the region. To provide expert care for patients admitted to Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals with cardiology conditions and to provide specialist interventional cardiology opinion to colleagues in referring hospitals as needed. The appointee will manage their own cardiac catheter lab sessions to ensure efficient use of resources, including supervision of trainees. Administrative: The appointee will participate in all aspects of Clinical Governance, making a significant contribution to multidisciplinary audit and risk management activities. Teaching: Participate in the teaching of undergraduate students in both medicine and dentistry, and in the clinical supervision of all postgraduate trainees in the department. Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills

Primary Medical Qualification Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC) Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview Higher research degree (MSc or PhD) Special skills training in the specialty Clinical Skills and Knowledge

Evidence of experience in the specialty Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the specialty Evidence of a special interest in complex PCI Management and Administration Experience

Ability to run a service and participate in management processes Evidence of involvement in authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines Proven management and administration ability Teaching

Experience of supervising junior medical staff Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching Clinical Governance, Audit and Research

Experience of audit projects and Clinical Governance Publications in interventional research in the last five years Communication, Relationships and Working with Colleagues

Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and other team members Personal Attributes
