Somerset Council is seeking a Compliance Officer to oversee property safety compliance for the council's housing stock. This role ensures adherence to legal requirements for asbestos, water safety, radon, and other property safety matters, safeguarding tenants and public assets.

Key Responsibilities: Manage all landlord property safety compliance within the Housing Directorate. Conduct statutory inspections and compliance checks (e.g., asbestos surveys, water hygiene, radon testing). Lead and manage an Asbestos team, providing training and performance management. Ensure all activities align with current legislation, health & safety standards, and best practices. Oversee contracts related to asbestos removal, water safety, and radon testing. Manage budgets (approx. £500k) for compliance-related activities. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and contractors to ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery of works.

Qualifications & Experience: Essential: A-level education or equivalent, with professional qualifications in asbestos management (P405), water hygiene (Legionella P901), and NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent experience). Desirable: Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., IOSH, BOHS), Prince2 qualification, and CIH Certificate in Housing Management. Experience: MUST - Minimum 3 years in property safety compliance within a social housing environment. Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and safety standards.
