A vacancy has arisen for a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Haematology and Blood Transfusion Blood Sciences at St George's Hospital. The role involves rotation through routine and specialist sections in our very busy haematology, coagulation and blood transfusion laboratories. Winpath LIMS is used within SWLP, analysers include DxH 900, ACL Top and Immucor BT analysers. A 24/7 shift pattern applies including extended day, weekend and night work after a period of suitable training. Main duties of the job

The Role: This post is based at St George's Hospital Clinical Blood Sciences Laboratory (CBS) however the post holder may be required to work at any of the South West London Pathology sites as and when necessary. The St George's Hospital CBS Laboratory operates a 24hr shift system providing cover to a busy A&E and acute services. The Laboratory is equipped with ACL Top, Beckman Coulter DxH 900 with AutoMate 1200 for pre/post analytics Haematology and coagulation services, as well as Immucor for automated Blood Transfusion services. The blood transfusion department delivers a wide range of pre-transfusion and antenatal investigations on site, and provides blood products to support trauma, surgical, renal and oncology patients. The Specialist Biomedical Scientist role requires a motivated HCPC registered BMS seeking experience in a busy acute laboratory. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the 24hr shift system after suitable training. Candidates who have applied in the past 3 months need not apply again. The role involves rotation through the sections of the laboratory (blood transfusion, haematology and coagulation) providing service for our busy acute hospital. You will be responsible for providing high quality results while maintaining the standards of the HCPC and ISO 15189. You will be involved in training colleagues and full participation in the 24/7 rota. Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

An honours degree or equivalent in a biological science HCPC Registration Hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma in relevant discipline or equivalent experience Knowledge and Experience

Proven experience post HCPC registration in the relevant discipline Excellent working knowledge of specialist subject in relevant discipline Evidence of continuing professional development Knowledge of health and safety issues Experience of quality management systems Skills and Abilities

Practical specialist analytical skills associated with diagnostic laboratory work Competence in PC word processing, spreadsheet and database software Accuracy and attention to detail Able to follow written methodologies or protocols Able to work as part of a team Ability to work under pressure Ability to plan and prioritise allocated work Intermediate level of computer skills Excellent communication and presentation skills Other relevant requirements

Participation and experience in out of hours working Supervisory experience Multi-disciplinary work experience Disclosure and Barring Service Check
