Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust An opportunity has arisen within The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) NHS Foundation Trust for a full-time (10PA) Locum Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultant post, complementing the existing three Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeons. The appointment is fixed term for 6 months in the first instance, with a further 6 months available. The postholder will be expected to support the team to address current departmental capacity issues and plans for ongoing expansion and development of the unit. The successful candidate would be expected to participate fully in developing and promoting the Paediatric Orthopaedic service and contribute to the life of this nationally and internationally renowned specialist orthopaedic hospital in line with both the unit and wider trust strategy.

The successful candidate would be expected to provide clinical expertise in the specialty to complement the current existing services. Main duties of the job The appointee will be responsible for the care of patients referred by general practitioners and all departments and will undertake clinics, ward rounds and operating lists 'programmed activities' as appropriate. We are looking for a dynamic individual who wishes to develop this service to deal with the high demand in a timely and efficient manner.

There is a combination of scheduled and flexible PAs within the timetable. Clinical activity linked with that of various wards or clinics, multidisciplinary team and other colleagues. Consultant colleagues will be happy to offer clinical support and guidance to ensure the successful candidate is well supported especially in the first year of appointment.

The appointee will have shared office facilities with a personal laptop, facilitating access to the Trust electronic patient record (EPR) and imaging (PACS) systems, hospital intranet and internet resources plus secretarial support. The team works closely with a Performance Manager who also supports the Paediatric Unit.

Job responsibilities The job plan detailed within the job description is an example of the proposed timetable and will be subject to change according to the needs of the service. The final job plan will be agreed in discussion between the successful candidate and the Clinical Lead for Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and will be subject to review, in line with the consultant contract terms and conditions and the Trust's relevant job planning and other guidance policies. Person Specification Qualifications

Registered with the GMC with licence to practice with no restrictions

FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent

Currently practicing clinician

Listed on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery (or within 6 months of CCT from date of interview)

Experience/ Specialist Knowledge

All round orthopaedic experience

Experience (as part of structured training and recognised by SAC or equivalent) in paediatric orthopaedic surgery

Evidence of specialist training (post FRCS) in area of special interest

Minimum 12 month post CCT fellowship in paediatric orthopaedics

Paediatric experience to reflect the generality of the specialty and to support the local services at RJAH

Clinical Audit

Understanding of principles of audit

Demonstrate recent leadership of audit, process and outcomes

Teaching

Proven teaching skills and commitment to the training of junior doctors

Formal teaching qualification

Educational supervisor experience

Academic Achievement, Research and Publication

Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research

Recent Research publications and presentation of papers

Personal Attributes

Ability to communicate with clarity & intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade, negotiate

Ability to take responsibility, lead make decisions appropriately

Empathy, understanding, listening skills, patience and ability to work co-operatively within a team

Experience of performance management, developing and motivating others

Basic understanding of finance and budgets

Understanding of service line and Patient Level Costing
