Fixed Term Consultant Paediatrician with an Expertise in Cardiology We are looking to appoint a fixed term full-time (10 PA) Consultant PEC.

This post has arisen to cover maternity leave. The post has a mixture of cardiology clinics and ward work across paediatrics and neonatal services.

The postholder will work collaboratively with the trust's existing PEC and cardiology specialist nurse and will take part in the on-call rota 1:16 across general paediatrics and neonatal services.

Applicants should possess, or be within 6 months of receiving, a CCT in paediatrics and have a special interest in Paediatric cardiology at the time of commencing the appointment.

The successful candidate will join a team of 16 Paediatric Consultants who share General Paediatric and neonatal work. There are also 4 SAS doctors, 4 Tier 2 Paediatric STs, 7 Tier 1 doctors, 2 CANPs and 2 Physician Associates on the acute paediatric rota in addition to Clinical Nurse Specialist for Epilepsy, Asthma and Diabetes, soon to include Cardiology.

Main duties of the job

Paediatric Cardiology New and Follow-Up clinics: weekly

Joint outreach clinics with the Brompton and Evelina Hospitals

Echocardiography as required for inpatients stays on both Paediatric and Neonatal units

To share work related to relevant committees, working groups and training of staff within the department, particularly relating to cardiology.

Take part in an on-call rota (1:16) for General Paediatrics and Neonates

Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.

Job responsibilities There is a twelve cot Neonatal Unit (NNU) with two fully equipped intensive care cots. The NNU has been upgraded and re-equipped to provide a more efficient and comfortable working environment. The number of deliveries at the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust continues to rise and is currently around 2,629 per year. The NNU is equipped with 2 Draegar patient-triggered ventilators and 4 high flow machines and nasal CPAP flow drivers, together with appropriate monitoring equipment, which includes facilities for CFM. The unit is a designated Level 1-unit (30 weeks and above) and babies born less than 30 weeks are stabilised and retrieved by the PANDR (Transport team incorporating ANTS) 24/7. PANDR also provides advice and guidance for the management of sick babies. The unit is equipped to provide high dependency for 4 babies which includes providing high flow/nCPAP, TPN, ultrasound and echocardiography.

Person Specification Qualifications

Entry on the Specialist Register in Paediatrics or be within six months of attaining a Certificate of Completion of Training at the time of interview.

Hold Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practise

MBBS or equivalent

MRCPCH or equivalent

APLS/NLS Instructor

Clinical experience

Special Interest (SPIN) in Cardiology

Experience and training in child protection Level 3

EPLS or APLS

Echocardiography Training

Experience in a wide variety of general specialist Paediatrics in a senior role in the UK.

1 Year Paediatric Cardiology Experience

Experience in Managing children with both chronic and acute Cardiac conditions.

Entry on the Specialist Register in Neonates

Experience in Neonatal echocardiography

Management and administration

Willingness to share management and administration duties with consultant colleagues.

To demonstrate experience in clinical audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance

To have attended a management course and have some experience of management

Teaching experience

Experience in teaching students and doctors in training

Formal training in teaching methods

Willingness to develop personal teaching skills by participating in Trainer Development Programme

Research

Critical reading skills

Evidence based approach to clinical practice.

Experience of research

Publication of peer-reviewed research

Presentations at national and international meetings.
