Principal/Lead Ecologist – South-East (Hybrid) Overview Our clients are an established Tier 1 contractor working across the UK and specialise in Highways infrastructure projects. As part of their ongoing growth, they are currently looking for a Principal/Lead Ecologist to join their growing team. The company prides itself on being environmentally focused and has won multiple awards over the last few years – now is a great time to be joining them on their exciting journey! The company has a well-established environmental services team and is now focused on growing their in-house Ecology team alongside this. The successful candidate will get the unique opportunity to build and develop the Ecology team, being involved with the recruitment for Senior, Mid, and Assistant level Ecologists going forward. The role will offer the opportunity to develop your career; as the team continues to expand, there will be numerous options for internal progression and to deliver high-quality ecology work on important infrastructure projects. Successful applicants will meet the following criteria: Minimum 5 years commercial experience as an ecologist and must hold at least 1 protected species licence (we are open on which one(s) you hold). Prior experience working on UK infrastructure projects. Proficient in field surveys, habitat mitigation, BNG assessments, and protected species surveys. Capable of undertaking surveys, producing technical reports, and supporting teams on project sites. Detailed knowledge of relevant UK/EU environmental legislation and confidence in discussing these with clients. Proven track record of coordinating and delivering a range of office and site-based ecological services to achieve positive project outcomes. Hold a full and clean UK driving licence. This position is remote-based/working from home – with use of regional office locations and the expectancy to travel to project sites when required. Any previous experience within highways projects would be great to see, but we won’t exclude candidates who don’t have this experience. Expected salary of £50-65k (dependent on experience) with an excellent benefits package that includes a company vehicle, bonus, and a long list of further benefits! This company is focused on continuous growth and therefore wants candidates who are looking to build long-term successful careers. Apply today for further information!
