We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist to join our large, friendly, supportive and welcoming Neuropsychology Department comprised of 15 Clinical Neuropsychologists / Psychologists and 8 Assistant Psychologists.

You may already be at Consultant level or looking for an opportunity to move into a leadership role.

The Department of Neuropsychology offers clinical neuropsychology services along the entire pathway of care from acute neurosciences through to the community. Our six main service areas are: General Outpatients; Neurosurgery; Cognitive Disorders Clinic, Integrated Stroke Pathway, Head Injury Therapy Unit and Functional Neurological Disorders Service.

The post holder will be expected to provide input into Neurosurgery services and also provide support and leadership to other service areas as required.

The Neuropsychology Department falls within the Neuro-MSK Division of North Bristol NHS Trust. We are located at Southmead Hospital in Bristol with links to the University of Bristol Neuropsychology courses.

Main duties of the job The successful candidate will serve as the Lead Neuropsychologist in the Neurosurgery services, including the Epilepsy Surgery Programme. Therefore, a minimum of two years supervised practice in an Adult Epilepsy Surgery Programme is an essential requirement for the post. Also required are registrations with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist and the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists of the British Psychological Society.

The post holder will be expected to provide support and leadership to other service areas at Southmead Hospital as required.

The post holder is also expected to contribute to the delivery of the University of Bristol Neuropsychology Programmes.

Job responsibilities Main responsibilities:

Serve as Lead Neuropsychologist within the neurosurgery services, including the Epilepsy Surgery Programme.

Provide clinical leadership for the neuropsychology services based at Southmead Hospital as required.

Provide a comprehensive neuropsychology service with a scientist-practitioner approach (e.g., diagnosis, formulation, recommendations to patient, carer, or other professionals, intervention and recommendations).

Communicate with patients, carers and other health professionals regarding the neuropsychological aspects of a person's care via individual sessions, discussion and formal reports, as appropriate.

Manage, plan and prioritise a clinical caseload.

Engage in supervision via colleagues in the Neuropsychology department and obtain the required continuing professional development hours.

Contribute to training and supervision of junior staff.

Provide support to the University of Bristol Neuropsychology Programmes.

Person Specification Education / Training/ Qualifications

Training in clinical psychology to doctoral standard (or its equivalent for those trained before 1996, as accredited by the British Psychological Society).

HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist.

Member of the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.

Specialist knowledge and skills regarding the neuropsychology of epilepsy and neuro-oncology.

Work Experience

Experience in assessment of patients with neurological conditions.

Minimum of two years supervised practice in an adult epilepsy surgery service.

Experience in a role providing leadership to a clinical team or management of a clinical team.

Experience providing clinical supervision and training in neuropsychology.
