Consultant Microbiologist and University of East Anglia Theme Lead The successful applicant will work as a Consultant Medical Microbiologist/ Consultant in Infectious Diseases and will lead in undergraduate teaching at the Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia (UEA), on behalf of the Department of Microbiology, Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA).

A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time post will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.

Main duties of the job This is a replacement post with university teaching commitments replacing some of Direct Clinical Care sessions. Teaching aspect of the funding is derived from Undergraduate Tariff that NNUH receives for provision of Undergraduate teaching. The appointed consultant will spend up to 4 PAs of their allocated activities performing teaching commitments at the University of East Anglia. The remaining programmed activities will be spent at the Department of Microbiology.

The post holder will participate in a single Rota for out of hours cover across Norfolk resulting in an anticipated frequency of 1 in 8 at full capacity.

It is expected that the appointee will be offered an honorary academic appointment with the University of East Anglia.

Full GMC Registration with license to practice is required at time of application.

Person Specification Qualifications

Full GMC Registration with license to practice

FRCPath or Equivalent with Specialist registration

Entry on the GMC Specialist Register

Participation in recognized CPD and appraisal

Further qualification such as: MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification

Teaching the Teachers or equivalent

Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team.

Enthusiasm for service development and teaching.

Demonstrates understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

Previous responsibility for service improvement.

Experience

Training and experience equivalent to that required for FRCPath

Teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate level

Wide experience of clinical microbiology, infectious disease, and infection control.

Training and expertise in children's safeguarding

Experience in research or published papers in area of special interest

Interests

Commitment to develop an appropriate specialist interest

Communications

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries.
