We are excited to announce that we are expanding gastroenterology services at Heartlands Hospital. We therefore invite applications from enthusiastic, dedicated colleagues to join us, and seek individuals with a range of expertise to complement our existing sub-speciality interests. Our recent, successful consultant recruitment process means we are now fully staffed in hepatobiliary medicine. Although any other sub-speciality interests will be considered, we particularly welcome colleagues with an interest in inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, upper gastrointestinal disease (including advanced endoscopic techniques), functional gastro-intestinal disorders, complex colonoscopy/bowel cancer screening, or hepatology. This is an exciting time to join our thriving department, as we work together to further develop comprehensive, high quality care for our patients. We have a community of likeminded professionals who dedicate themselves in a variety of sub-speciality interests and are committed to delivering first class care to all. Our colleagues pride themselves on leading through clinical excellence. Our vision is to build healthier lives in our communities. We nurture a kind and inclusive environment where staff can feel safe, valued and appreciated, and have the opportunity to thrive in their work. Main duties of the job

The post holders will be responsible, together with other members of the department, for the provision of a high-quality secondary and/or tertiary gastroenterology service to complement the existing subspecialisation within the department. Clinical responsibility includes outpatient clinics (specialist +/- general) and endoscopy lists, as well as supporting inpatient care and providing specialist advice to both primary and secondary care health professionals. Ward cover is shared on a rotating 7-day consultant of the week model. We also participate in the out of hours GI bleed rota. Development of a sub-speciality interest is actively encouraged, and continuous quality improvement is supported. Our consultants are expected to lead by example and foster good working relationships with staff, patients and carers alike. Multi-disciplinary team work is a key part of our ethos, with all healthcare professionals actively working together to achieve our aim of excellent care for all. Contribution to both undergraduate and post graduate education is expected. There are ample opportunities for research and development, with interests encouraged and supported. The final job plan will be agreed on appointment. Depending on the needs of the department, the job plan could have elements of flexible working or annualised sessions. About us
