Clinical Psychologist with an interest in working in Adult Diabetes Outpatients - B8C 1wte permanent post An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent B8C Clinical Psychologist with an interest in working in Adult Diabetes Outpatients. The post holder will be expected to lead on the development, coordination and delivery of a new clinical psychology service to Diabetes services at NUH and to provide psychological support for adults within Diabetes. This work will involve working closely with the MDT staff within Diabetes Services. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist with a significant interest and experience in Clinical Health Psychology. It is essential that the post-holder will have a doctorate level clinical psychology professional qualification and be HCPC registered. The post holder will be employed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and will be required to work at both City and QMC Campus. Applicants must have the personal qualities and resilience to be able to work in a busy acute trust setting. The successful applicant will be part of the expanding Department of Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology at NUH. The department has excellent links with the University of Nottingham and the Trent Clinical Psychology Doctorate Course. Main duties of the job

Training & Qualifications

HPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist Post-graduate doctoral level (or equivalent) training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS Post-doctoral training/study in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice Additional study/qualifications in illness or health psychology and related treatment Communication and relationship skills

Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS. Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Ability to contain and work with organisational stress and ability to 'hold' the stress of others. Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours. The ability to work effectively with clients from a diverse range of cultural/ethnic backgrounds, and to understand and respect the impact of difference and diversity upon clients' lives and difficulties. Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group. Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies or assessment methodologies. Analytical and Judgement skills

Evidence of highest level of analytical and judgemental skills. A doctoral level of research knowledge. The ability to lead on both clinical and non-clinical research, applying a doctoral level of knowledge and skills in research designs, methods and analyses (including complex multivariate statistics) as practised in the field of clinical psychology. Ability to analyse highly complex psychological data in order to develop individual psychological formulations. Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour. Ability to access and apply literature from related professions (e.g. medicine, dietetics) to psychological assessment and intervention with adults within specialist diabetes care. Record of having published in either peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books. Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for people with long-term health conditions Knowledge of complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology. Experience using qualitative research methods. Planning and organisation skills

Evidence of highly advanced planning and organisational skills. Post-qualification experience of service development and planning. Formal management/leadership training. Other requirements specific to the role

Up to date immunisations are required (including TB, HepB). Experience

Substantial post-qualification experience of working with adults within an acute hospital working with patients with complex medical conditions. Substantial post-qualification experience of working with people with chronic medical health conditions. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment and in the context of multidisciplinary team working. Including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse. Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision to health professionals and qualified clinical psychologists and clinical psychologists in training. Experience of working with adults within a hospital setting with complex medical and health conditions. Experience of supervising and managing research and clinical audit. Experience of working with adults with diabetes. Demonstrable experience of working with patients with diabetes in an acute hospital. Experience of managing/supervising qualified/pre-qualified psychologists. Experience of developing business cases. Experience of representing the profession in local or regional policy forums. Experience of leadership and management. Experience of multi-professional management of teams or services within the designated specialty. Specialist knowledge of the literature and issues associated with diabetes. Physical skills
