This strategic focus is a reflection of our core values: staying customer-centric, inspiring dedication, persevering, growing by reflection Job Summary Huawei Ipswich Research Centre is looking for an R&D Design & Verification Engineer with experience in testing optoelectronic devices. You will be part of the Design Team, and support NPI development and research projects on III-V optical chip components. As part of R&D Test Team, you'll be responsible for the development of test rig prototypes (HW & SW) & test methodology to develop next generation devices. You will be working in close cooperation with a wide team of experts in design, fabrication and testing of photonic chips and support transfer research and technology projects to NPI phase and production. You will have some professional or academic experience in optoelectronics and/or RF characterisation & ability to quickly setup rig prototype to validate new devices and/or test methodologies. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of experimental methods, device characterisation and willingness to work in a lab-based environment. We are looking for an individual who is capable to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment, can work independently and has a great attention to detail. Key Responsibilities: Develop R&D test rig prototypes (HW & SW) & test methodology. DC and RF verification testing/characterisation of early stage development devices and prepare and publish technical reports of findings/proposed improvements. Plan, develop & execute project-based test strategy. Engage with Design team to discuss and analyse specifications and define test plans. Engage with supplier to buy off-the-shelf/customised solutions to fit project requirements. Transfer test methodology to Backend team & support them during NPI phase. This job description is only an outline of the tasks, responsibilities and outcomes required of the role. The jobholder will carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required by his/her line manager. Person Specification: Required: Recent PhD in physics or Engineering. Experience in optoelectronic device characterisation, DC and RF. Familiarity with software used for automated testing. Excellent data analysis and report writing skills. Desired: 3+ years of experience in an academic or industrial lab environment. Experience in RF testing (S-parameter analysis, Eye diagram tests). Experience in Automated Wafer level testing. Experience with TCAD software. Experience in Python, C#, C++, VB.Net, Matlab, or equivalent. Knowledge of design and/or fabricating process of III-V optoelectronic devices. Additional Information Candidates must be eligible to, and hold all relevant finalised paperwork, to live and work in the UK. Copies of Passports and Visas will be requested. Please note we do not offer sponsorship for this role at this current time or the foreseeable future. This is an agency worker contract, to be extended for further 12-month periods dependent on performance and workload. Assignments are renewed on the 31st December each year.
