We are looking for a dedicated and friendly Consultant Colleague to help us with our management of the glaucoma services in our local area. This is a replacement post with flexibility to support part time working if required. If you are able to fulfil this role then please get in touch and come and visit us. We are a friendly department and provide world class care in our two Ophthalmological surgical centres, at St Richard's, Chichester and Southlands Hospital which is a state of the art centre, built in 2017. There has been a substantial investment in the service in recent years to help us manage our workload. Since our merger as a Trust to form University Hospitals Sussex, we are working more closely with our colleagues in the Sussex Eye Hospital and this provides a number of gains and opportunities for the future both for the staff working with us, but also for the patients whom we serve. The job comprises 2 theatre sessions, and the remainder in the outpatient setting as detailed in the job description. We, like the rest of the country are seeing increasing numbers of glaucoma patients and have changed the way we work to be able to deliver the most care for the most people. Outside of work, West Sussex is an incredible place to live, offering a life on the South coast, with Southlands Hospital within walking distance of the sea. Life with us offers opportunities outside of work - please get in touch and come for a look around. Main duties of the job
This is a glaucoma job and you will be a independent decision maker (with support from colleagues where necessary). We undertake Yag lasers, trabeculectomy and various MIGS, most commonly Preserflo as surgical options. This is done in both our two centres (predominantly Southlands hospital). We are happy to offer flexible working solutions; please come and have a look around our department and meet the team for more information. We work closely with our Ophthalmic colleagues who are in the Sussex Eye Hospital, and we see this relationship becoming closer as time progresses. The on call commitment for this post is a 1 in 9 in conjunction with the other Consultants; there is a separate VR on call element which is provided in conjunction with the Sussex Eye Hospital. There is more information on the duties of the role within the job description. About us
