This is an exciting opportunity for a first rate Consultant Cardiologist to join a vibrant team in a major tertiary centre. The successful candidate will be expected to join the established team delivering transcatheter aortic valve implantation. In addition, there is an expectation that the post holder will deliver coronary intervention and contribute to the departmental on call service for primary PCI. This is a full-time post for a Consultant Cardiologist working for University Hospitals North Midlands, delivering services at both Royal Stoke and County Hospital Sites. Clinical Duties: Interventional Cardiology Diagnosis and treatment of ward and outpatients in cardiology. Regular ward rounds on the cardiology wards. Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge allowing for all proper delegation to and training of your staff. On call commitment for cardiology, with a 1:11 frequency. About us
The University Hospitals North Midlands is a main tertiary centre for acute and sub speciality cardiology. There are x19 full time consultant cardiologist and x6 visiting consultants, who deliver services in our neighbouring hospitals in Cheshire and Shrewsbury/Telford. Referral population
Local: 600000 Tertiary (Shropshire, North Staffordshire, South Cheshire) 1.8 million There is an active cardiac network, and strong links exist between the department and the district general hospitals at Stafford, Shrewsbury, Telford and Leighton (Crewe, South Cheshire). This is an exciting time for a dedicated and enthusiastic interventional cardiologist to join the established TAVI team at UHNM. The service is also well supported by UHNM cardiac surgeons, interventional radiologists and cardiothoracic anaesthetists. The team includes participating consultants as well as a TAVI fellow, and a dedicated specialist nurse. The service is evolving rapidly. The team have performed over 400 implants over the last year, and scheduled to undertake 500 this year. The successful applicant will contribute to delivering the current high quality clinical service. He/she will also have the opportunity to contribute to service development, and perhaps bring new innovations to the team. Job responsibilities
UHNM is a tertiary centre for cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, providing primary PCI, cardiac devices, and structural cardiac intervention (including TAVI, transcatheter valve repair,Left atrial appendage occlusion, PFO closure, ASD closure and paravalvular leak closure). The department also provides advanced cardiac imaging (including cardiac CT and MRI), our expanding electrophysiology service includes complex 3D mapping, AF ablation, (convergent is developing) and VT ablation. We have an award winning heart failure service. We are a level 3 centre for grown up Congenital heart disease with strong links to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. Person Specification
Qualifications
Full GMC Registration Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining entry in the GMC specialist register via one of the following: Certification of completion of training (CCT) the proposed CCT date must within 6 months of the interview, or certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR)- CESR application must be submitted and outcome must expected within 6 months of interview European Community Rights MRCP UK or Equivalent Other higher degree (MD, PhD, Masters) Accreditation by the British Society for Echocardiography Level 2 / 3 Accreditation in either Cardiac MRI or Cardiac CT Clinical Experience & Training:
Sub-specialty training TAVI Sub-specialty training in coronary Intervention Experience in developing and implementing new technologies or teams in a hospital environment. Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working
