Senior Rolling Stock Engineer

at HS2, you'll manage and deliver the engineering elements of the high-speed passenger train fleet delivery programme, ensuring quality rolling stock is delivered on time through an efficient, robust process. About the role: Support finalisation of initial rolling stock tender evaluation and contract, including negotiations with Tenderers; Ensure that appointed rolling stock contractor delivers rolling stock to the technical aspects of the contract; Develop and validate the requirements for future rolling stock; Engage with external stakeholders throughout the procurement and delivery of the fleet; Develop the rolling stock maintenance, depot and stabling strategy and requirements; Provide overall programme assurance for the rolling stock; Provide strategic direction within the business for successful programme outcomes; Develop system strategies and policies to deliver railway capability while mitigating environmental impacts; Provide leadership of specialist and consultancy resources; Commission and oversee delivery of studies for robust system design decision making; Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work. About You: Skills: Systems Engineering and Requirements:

Able to develop and manage rigorous, traceable technical requirements Able to use best practice systems engineering principles and tools

Communication Skills: able to communicate complex issues effectively Capacity to learn and develop knowledge of rail systems, engineering processes, and operational principles Influencing and negotiation skills: able to develop relationships with stakeholders Planning and management skills: for development and delivery of programmes Skills for commissioning work packages: able to prepare clear remits for external work Knowledge: Degree-qualified in relevant engineering subject; ideally a chartered engineer or similar level of experience Technical knowledge of train design including:

Operational functionality, train control, and software Overall vehicle performance Compatibility with infrastructure Interior design and human factors Vehicle maintenance and servicing

Understanding of the rolling stock procurement, design, construction, and introduction life-cycle Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory approvals processes Type of experience: Experience of developing and managing requirements, interfaces, and systems integration in a railway context Experience on delivery of a rolling stock project as customer or supplier Experience of effective working as part of a multi-disciplinary team The post-holder is expected to behave consistently with HS2 values of Safety, Leadership, Integrity, and Respect.
