Location: Huddersfield Onsite £50 PAYE or £65.98 Umbrella hourly rate - inside IR35 12 month contract This is to work onsite at David Brown Defence carrying out work on behalf of BAES Subs. Core Duties: Engineering design of geared transmission systems and components. Develop designs and/or re-engineering of existing designs for new applications. Design of test equipment and procedures for gearboxes. Interpretation and comprehension of customer specifications, design standards including geometric tolerancing. Work with & support other team members, including those in adjacent disciplines including Analysis & Development. Lead engineering tasks on assigned projects. Interpretation and comprehension of customer and Standards requirements (eg., performance, safety conformance). Create deliverable documentation including Proposals, Manuals, Installation and Maintenance instructions as necessary. 2 & 3D CAD usage at expert level, Solid Edge preferred. Create component and assembly drawings. Drawing and technical documentation checking. BOM and gear data generation and engineering change control processing. Technical liaison and problem solving with Production Engineering and Supply Chain teams. Participation in DFMEA, PFMEA and CI activities. Safety: The role holder is responsible for taking reasonable care of their own health and safety ensuring high standards for safety, health and environment (SHE) in our organisation are maintained. Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications: Knowledge: Strong core design skills, competence in materials selection, gear rating (ideally, not essential at first appointment), shaft and bearing analysis, rotor dynamics, other drive system elements including structural components, couplings, lubrication systems, relevant instrumentation and control systems. Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques. Good knowledge of materials and processing techniques. Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards and design protocols (ISO, AGMA, DIN, FKM, DNV for example). Experienced in the application of Machinery Safety regulations and requirements. SAP aware/user, in context of engineering design data specification. Skills: Ability to make well informed data driven decisions. Responsible for contributing to the technical output from the Engineering team. A strong sense of integrity. Ability to approach conflict resolution objectively. Ability to teach and mentor.
