We are actively seeking a locum consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon. The department expects appropriate fellowship training or previous experience in major trauma, orthopaedic trauma, and elective orthopaedic surgery. You will join a dynamic team at the Peninsula Trauma Centre, part of an expanding university teaching hospital in Britain’s Ocean City. Main duties of the job
This post is an additional appointment, and the successful candidate would contribute to the major trauma and orthopaedic trauma services and assist with elective recovery shoulder and elbow surgery. The successful candidate will be employed by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHPT), closely associated with Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry (PUPMED). The successful candidate will be based in the Trauma & Orthopaedic Department, where there are numerous teaching and growing research opportunities in collaboration with PUPMED and the clinical trials unit. To provide a high standard of diagnosis and treatment to inpatients and outpatients in both trauma and elective surgery. As a senior employee of the Trust, the post holder will work in close cooperation with and support other clinical, medical professional, and management colleagues in providing high-quality healthcare to our patients. Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following: To ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust’s and Division’s service plans To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty To work effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and promote team working Person specification
Full GMC Registration European Community Rights An appropriate higher surgical qualification. ETC provider (or equivalent) Particular skills and experience
Experience of trauma and relevant sub-specialty surgery at specialist registrar level or equivalent Ability to lead a team Good time management Research & clinical audit
Contemporaneous publications in peer-reviewed journals Evidence of clinical audit Teaching
Teaching portfolio Postgraduate teaching qualification. ETC/ATLS instructor Communication & interpersonal skills
