The Department of Law and Criminology wishes to appoint a Professor in Commercial Law / Business Law. The post-holder will be expected to provide excellent and ambitious academic leadership and to contribute to all areas of the Department’s activities, including research, teaching, and administration. The post holder will have a mature and deep understanding of the HE environment in Wales with reference to their own field of expertise and beyond. The post-holder will have an excellent research record and will be expected to motivate, support and lead others to produce research of world leading quality. The post-holder will have the drive and acumen to lead colleagues through change and support department management in the delivery of AU strategic objectives. This job description is subject to review and amendment in the light of the changing needs of the University, to provide appropriate development opportunities and/or the addition of any other reasonable duties. The post is a permanent appointment as Professor in the Department of Law and Criminology currently located in the Hugh Owen Building on the University’s Penglais Campus which will be the post holder’s principal place of work, subject to any change in the University’s requirements. The post holder will contribute to all areas of the department’s activity, including teaching, research, administration, and leadership as follows: The delivery of a high-impact, institutionally aligned, research programme that will attract grant income, produce high-quality, peer-reviewed publications and contribute towards the training of post-graduate and post-doctoral researchers. Contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality teaching, including the design of excellent learning environments and curricula and foster an environment that aligns major research activities with taught courses. Attract, and provide excellent supervision to, research students, and enhance the Department’s commitment to its vibrant and international postgraduate culture. Contribute to the planning and support of the department’s strategic development identifying opportunities for and leading on change. Contribute to student recruitment activities, including the development of partnerships at both a national and international level. Work with colleagues to foster and develop an excellent student experience. To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post. Essential Doctoral qualification or equivalent professional experience Significant experience of excellent teaching and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Law Experience of and willingness to contribute to teaching courses covering the foundations of legal knowledge in relation to the Law of England and Wales in addition to your area of specialism Significant track record of original impactful research of international quality in Law that strengthens and expands existing research activities in the Department including a substantial portfolio of high-quality research outputs, as well as an exciting future research agenda Experience of and commitment to knowledge exchange, innovation and impact activity Experience of supervising postgraduate research students to completion and mentoring early career researchers Track record of generating significant research income Experience of active involvement in university administration, demonstrating leadership at least at departmental level and/or University level Commercial awareness and significant experience of engaging in student recruitment activities Demonstrate ability to work as part of, and lead, a team Demonstrate an understanding of the student wellbeing and experience agenda Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level A1 or above.* or evidence to demonstrate an on-going commitment to learn Welsh to this level.
