We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Care of the Elderly on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful department.

This is an exciting time for the Department of Medicine for the Elderly for our client. They are in the process of expanding their department and are particularly interested in developing innovative processes of care for their patient population. They currently provide specialist care on a Frailty and Acute Medicine for the Elderly Unit, five 'Core' Medicine for the Elderly wards - one of which has been redesigned as a Specialist Delirium Unit. They have developed a Rapid Access Service for GPs (RADAR) and a trust-wide specialist Geriatric Liaison Team (SAFE).

The successful appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties, such as:

Responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department. Out-of-hours responsibilities, including participation in Consultant on-call rota where applicable. Opportunities for working across a range of clinical settings including core Medicine for the Elderly wards and the Frailty and Acute Medicine for the Elderly unit. Support the development of our Flagship Frailty Pathway with expansion of our specialist Ambulatory Care Service and intensification of front-door CGA. Support for the development of a sub-speciality interest. Participation in the General Medicine (GIM) on-call rota if desired. Fulfil Clinical Governance and Audit duties. Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally.
