5 For graduates from a range of Engineering disciplines seeking a challenging, rewarding and recession-proof career, look no further than the world of corporate insurance. This role sits within the specialist team of a leading global insurance broker - perhaps one of the best-known financial institutions in the world. It boasts an enviable client list, comprising some of the largest and most complex businesses on the planet. As a Trainee Property Risk Engineer, you will undertake site surveys and audits to a variety of businesses. You will then produce reports on site risks and existing control measures, supplemented by your own risk recommendations, as well as reviewing those provided by insurers and third parties. All these endeavours are to reduce the likelihood of costly claims and to help your colleagues within Broking Teams to obtain clients the most comprehensive cover at competitive premiums. As your experience grows, you will get the opportunity to help account manage some of these clients. This is a home-based role, requiring you to undertake travel regionally and nationally. In time, you will also have the opportunity to visit client sites overseas. This forward-thinking organisation welcomes applications from Engineering graduates who have several years’ experience working in industry post-university. You will have developed your business acumen and honed your communication and stakeholder-management skills. A natural curiosity is essential to develop a sound understanding of your clients’ businesses and the risks that they face. You must have excellent communication skills and the ability to produce accurate and informative reports. In order to get you up to speed within the insurance industry, you will be mentored by some of the ‘best in the business’, who will be committed to your professional development from day one. Working for what is arguably the most prestigious insurance broker in the world, you will benefit from a myriad of career-development opportunities spanning many different business areas; for example, sector specialists, managerial, business development, or Account Director roles. You will receive a generous basic salary and car allowance, plus bonus. You will also benefit from a flexible-benefits package that can be adjusted to your personal circumstances, which includes a market-leading pension arrangement. As part of your development, you will also benefit from full support towards professional insurance qualifications under the Chartered Insurance Institute.
