Counsellor, 3 days week, 22.5hours, (42 weeks per year) permanent contract. All counsellors are expected to work on one evening a week during term-time. All counsellors attend the weekly staff meeting (currently Wednesday 13.00 to 14.15). The service currently works under the Universities New Ways of Working Framework and therefore a hybrid working pattern with a minimum expectation of one day per week on-site and a minimum of one day to be worked remotely is offered. The practitioner will be responsible for their own clinical practice, conducting initial assessments of students including those who present with multiple and complex problems. Following assessment, the practitioner will select a therapeutic approach relevant to the needs of individual students or refer to specialist services where available. The practitioner will be responsible for their own professional development and also for delivering relevant training programmes for college and departmental staff on a variety of student mental health issues and appropriate practical ways to support students. The practitioner will also be able to research, develop, and lead therapeutic groups, as well as evaluate and adapt the content and format according. They will contribute to the operational development of the service and support the wider work of the Counselling Service within colleges, departments and external services. During the aforementioned team meetings the practitioner may take responsibility for the development of a theme at specific meetings; to attend and engage with training and consultancy meetings, sharing in decisions on format and content of such meetings and contribute to the planning of the development of the service. The practitioner will be committed to delivering brief therapy where appropriate. About You Applicants should be able to demonstrate • Evidence of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Individual Counsellor Accreditation/UKCP Registration or equivalent body e.g. Chartership with the British Psychological Society (BPS); Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the case of a Psychologist, qualified as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist. • Substantial experience of delivering individual, psychodynamic and/or cognitive behavioural counselling/psychotherapy for a range of psychological problems and at significant depth, as well as the experience and ability of adapting a therapeutic model to a brief approach. • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, to self-motivate and motive others • A detailed and contemporary familiarity with issues facing students in Higher Education • Evidence of ability to identify training needs, to design and deliver training accordingly. • Experience of using MS Outlook or equivalent for email and calendar and MS Teams or equivalent for chat, video/audio calls and file storage/sharing.
