Our client is an independently owned subcontractor that is well-renowned in the industry with an excellent reputation for delivering design and build projects and contracts. They have been trading for over 25 years and specialise across rail/infrastructure, energy and aviation. They have worked on major projects including London Underground schemes and several stations for Crossrail, turning over £40-50m annually. Due to several project wins and recently securing a place on a major M&E framework, they are looking for a Design Engineering Manager to join their London office.
The responsibilities of your role will be:
You will lead, in collaboration with project teams, the MEP design and engineering process from award to project close - including HVAC, electrical, communications, plumbing, and fire protection systems, ensuring designs comply with project requirements and industry standards. You will conduct design reviews and oversee quality control processes to ensure designs comply with codes, regulations, and best practices. Provide technical support to design teams in projects in conjunction with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). You will work with the pre-construction team as required to develop the baseline team and deliverables, and support the management of resources, project planning (design) and progress reporting including earned value analysis. It will be key to utilise the pre-construction Technical Risk Review as a basis for management of risks during design and engineering delivery. You will need to proactively develop solutions to mitigate risks, and escalate significant risks to the Technical Director. You will help meet the company's Sustainability Action Plans, specifically for design.
The ideal candidate will have: A minimum of 5 years in Design and Engineering Management. Degree qualification in Engineering (building services, mechanical or electrical). Experience managing Design teams from stage 4 onwards. Strong knowledge of MEP systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, communications, and fire safety design. Familiarity with CAD software, BIM, and relevant design tools. Deep understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards, including LEED, BREEAM, or other sustainability standards. Strong and effective communication and problem-solving skills.
