Staff Management
While this role has no direct line management responsibilities, the postholder will be expected to deliver in the following areas: Assist in developing the skills and competencies of staff within the CSU Finance team in respect of financial systems and analysis tools. Participate in and lead elements of the Future Focused Finance accreditation continuous improvement process. Coach and mentor members of the finance team and in the wider NHS finance community in their development, including the identification and support of financial leaders of the future. Be an ambassador for MLCSU Finance by actively participating in the One NHS Finance community. Contribute to the development and implementation of training and supporting resources for CSU colleagues who have financial responsibilities within their roles. Develop and maintain the finance-related content on the CSU Nugget page for areas of responsibility. Systems
Assist the Head of Finance – Reporting to oversee the ISFE ledger system on behalf of CSU Finance and liaise with the NHS Shared Business Service over any performance issues and system maintenance. Maintain and develop the Finance data warehouse(s) and reporting servers working with Finance and Business Intelligence colleagues. Assist the Business Intelligence and IT team for technical support with robotic process automation and other tools that the CSU Finance team do not have the skill set to develop in-house. Support the Head of Finance – Reporting to ensure the finance data warehouse(s) contains the data that supports the improvements in new ways of working across the CSU Finance team. Proactively support CSU Finance staff in developing software skills for the future and sharing of own knowledge on systems and software such as Excel, Microsoft Power Platform, SQL, and data visualisation tools. Proactively engage with the One NHS Finance Innovation Forum to look for ideas for smarter ways of working and sharing CSU Finance innovations. Role-specific duties
Be the expert with regards to financial systems, with full knowledge of the finance data processes, data architecture, and data flows. Be the expert in the CSU Finance team for the use of SQL, SQL Service Integration Services, and SQL Server Reporting Services. Responsible for maintaining and enhancing the relationship between CSU Finance and NHS Shared Business Service in relation to the ISFE ledger system. Responsible for identifying, evaluating, testing, and managing appropriate upgrades to software and hardware to enhance the deliverable benefits of the finance system. Have ownership and responsibility for maintenance of financial system integrity, performance controls, and processes, focusing on developing the systems in accordance with business requirements. Identify, recommend, design, and implement processes to automate and improve the efficiency of systems through a coordinated approach with finance and other colleagues. Improve business processes and operations through developing financial system enhancements. Identify, evaluate, and champion opportunities to deliver continuous improvements, ensuring appropriate change management processes are applied. Review existing and design and write new system-generated reports as required to meet business requirements. Lead on in-house training and support on the use of financial systems to the user community, fostering a culture of self-service by users of financial systems. Collaborate and foster good working relationships with colleagues from the Business Intelligence and Digital Innovation departments and third-party suppliers. Work with finance and wider stakeholders to understand, document, and review the end-to-end business and finance processes pertinent to the finance systems estate. Ensure all reports generated from financial systems are updated, reconciled, and maintained. Assist in maintaining the ISFE system around User access and accountability cards.
