provides a range of services that support vulnerable adults and young people. We operate across the North of England to help people regain control of their lives, providing hope and a sense of purpose through the provision of five main service areas: Carers , Advocacy , Well-being , Counselling
and Volunteering Services . Originally working exclusively in Lancashire, n-compass now operates in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, Cumbria and Staffordshire. The charity has an annual income of around £6m. It employs 150 staff across all its sites and has an additional 200 volunteers who support people in living better quality lives and work together to improve people’s well-being. About the role
This is an exciting time to join the Board and play a significant part in supporting our three-year strategy, which focuses on continuing to help more people stay well through our five key support services. We are keen to recruit people who share the passion, energy, and values of our unique and dynamic organisation. We seek a qualified and strategic finance leader who is passionate about improving people’s well-being and who is empathetic and innovative. This new Finance Trustee will bring fresh thinking, ideas, curiosity, and healthy challenge to the Board and be part of the Audit Committee. They will be professionally qualified with good business acumen. Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the organisation’s governing body and has overall responsibility for the strategic direction and financial health of n-compass ensuring that they deliver their stated charitable aims. The Board can have up to 12 trustees and the term of office is 3 years, renewable three times up to a maximum of 9 years. It operates with one sub-committee, the Audit Committee. It meets once a quarter with a blend of in person and virtual meetings. The Audit Committee meets every 2 months between Board meetings. Time Commitment
We expect the time commitment for Trustees to be up to a day a month. This is inclusive of reading board papers, preparing for and attendance at meetings and events and ad hoc discussions with board members and the executive team. The Board of Trustees meet once a quarter (these are a mix of face-to-face and virtual meetings), and these currently meet between 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. There is one sub-committee to the Board, the Audit Committee, and this meets every 2 months in between the Board meetings. In addition, you will also be expected to attend at least one staff briefing and/or staff conference a year. The term of office is three years from date of appointment. Trustees can serve up to 9 years if re- elected.
