The Children and Young People’s Empowerment Project (CHILYPEP) is a registered charity that has worked with disadvantaged Children and Young People for almost 23 years. Our work is a combination of youth work approaches and principles, and early intervention and prevention services based on good practice, with young people’s voice at the heart of everything we do.
H.O.M.E (Helping Our Mental ‘Ealth) is an early support mental health and emotional wellbeing hub for young people in Barnsley aged between 11 and 25 that provides open access, flexible, early support in a non-judgmental welcoming, safe space. A young person can be involved with HOME at their own pace, for as long as they would like (up to the age of 25) and can choose which elements of the programme they would like to access.

Bank Counsellors for clients aged 11-25 Contract Basis:
All bank counsellors will be engaged on a self-employed basis and will be responsible for their own tax and national insurance. Payment Rate:
£30 per client session, £15 for ‘Did Not Attend’ (DNA) sessions and late cancellations. Commitment:
Minimum of 4 client sessions per week and commit to providing sessions for a minimum duration of six months. Job Summary: Chilypep is currently seeking passionate and experienced children and young people’s counsellors to work on a flexible contract. This role will complement the wider wellbeing programme on offer at HOME, which includes early intervention and prevention support primarily in the form of group work. You will provide in-person and/or remote support to children and young people who may be experiencing a range of issues. Availability for sessions is flexible, depending on room availability at HOME; however, due to the age range of the clients, sessions may need to take place at evenings after school/college hours. As a Bank member of the team, you will be able to meet the needs of the service when there is increased demand to ensure that children and young people are able to access support in a timely way. To be successful in the role, candidates are required to have excellent time management skills. You must be compassionate, resilient, and dedicated to changing the lives of the young people Chilypep supports. Main Duties of the Job: As a Bank Counsellor you will: Deliver therapeutic interventions to children and young people, working independently which may at times mean lone working. Undertake professional initial assessments of young people and formulate a plan for their therapy within the guidelines of the service. Provide ongoing (up to 20 weeks) and one-off counselling to young people. Maintain accurate notes, and confidential and up-to-date records and undertake necessary administrative tasks as required by Chilypep. Undertake approved clinical supervision (90 mins per month) at own expense and maintain own personal indemnity insurance. Fit other commitments, e.g., supervision and administration, around the caseload. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Minimum level 5/6 Counselling Qualification BACP or equivalent Membership/Registration Previous experience supporting vulnerable children and young people Other Requirements: Work within a non–discriminatory, anti–oppressive, equal opportunity framework and in line with Chilypep’s ethos and values.
