GMP Recruitment are proud to be partnered with an established telecommunications company serving Military, Government, Transport and Utility markets. The company is looking to appoint a Senior Technical Engineer to enhance an already strong and competent team with varying specialisms.

The role is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours per week at their Gloucester office.

The company is offering a competitive salary of up to £44,000 for the right person, dependent on experience and levels of knowledge.

The company markets a wide range of PDH, SDH, Ethernet/IP, MPLS, Optical specialised, DWDM, Cellular and Wireless, LTE based networking equipment and Synchronization. We provide and manage a variety of SNMP based network management systems that run on Linux, Solaris and Windows servers. The applicant must have a basic understanding of these technologies.

Ideally, the applicant should be educated to HNC level or above in a telecommunications field and be eligible for UKSC & NPPV3 clearances with the availability to go into the field when required.

The company provides 24/7 support to our customers so the ability to participate in an “week on – 3 weeks off” out of hours rota is essential. This will take the form of phone and email support and the occasional customer site visit, if and when required.

Technical Support Engineer Duties: Conduct testing and produce full comprehensive test documentation/reports. Manage fault tickets process from beginning to end and run turnkey projects. Engage with both customers and suppliers on technical and project related matters. Carry out field activities as and when the business requires.

Required skills and experience: Specialist knowledge in IP and Cellular. Familiar with a range of test equipment such as optical power meters & light sources, BERTs, cellular scanners and multi-meters, as well as knowledge of Cellular RTE, Routing & Switching protocols and network synchronisation. Experienced in fault finding methodology. Experience with remote management platforms. Comfortable engaging with both customers and suppliers on technical and project related matters. Experience using Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The ability to train other members of the team and customers. Hold or previously held any telecommunications-related courses/qualifications with regards to theory, installations, testing, commissioning, power & H&S.
