An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated full or part-time substantive Consultant Clinical Lead Dermatologist at Barnsley Hospital. You will be joining a friendly supportive team of Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Junior Medical Staff, Allied Health Professionals, and a Specialist Nursing team. The role as clinical lead will allow the successful candidate to work together with the Service Manager and Matron in shaping the future of the Dermatology Service at Barnsley Hospital. You will have shared responsibility for the operational performance, clinical quality, and resource management of the service, providing leadership and management.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for the planning, delivery, and improvement of clinical care in Dermatology at Barnsley Hospital. Liaise with other Health Care Organisations, Social Services, General Practitioners, and Voluntary Organisations as required. Contribute to the teaching of other grades of staff, both within and outside the department, including medical staff and nurses. Carry out medical teaching, examination, and accreditation duties as required. Participate in the formal appraisal of junior medical staff. Demonstrate continuing improvements to the quality of service provided within the framework of the Trust's Clinical Governance arrangements. Contribute towards the achievement of the Trust's corporate objective/strategic direction. Contribute to the management process. Be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date service. Advise medical, nursing, managerial, and other colleagues on appropriate matters. With colleagues, accept equal responsibility for ensuring that an appropriate level of cover is maintained within the department during periods of absence/leave.

Skills and Attributes

Essential

Willingness and ability to fulfil the key elements of the job description including the shift pattern required. Possession of the clinical skills required to perform the job including acute medicine and general internal medicine. Ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant. Ability to lead and develop the service. Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional, and team basis with all levels of staff. Ability to communicate effectively, written and orally. Ability to empathise and demonstrate probity. Ability and evidence of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to be flexible to meet service demands. Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies.

Qualifications

Essential

MRCP or equivalent. Full GMC registration, and on the specialist register in Dermatology with proven skills and up-to-date experience in acute medicine OR Full GMC registration, and within 6 months of specialist registration in Dermatology due to completion of training or within 6 months of specialist registration in Dermatology with proven skills and up-to-date experience in acute medicine due to completion of training, or application via GMC CESR with the submission completed at the time of interview in either case.

Additional Criteria

Essential

Audit - Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit principles. Research - Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate. Management - Ability to work effectively and constructively with management. Teaching - Evidence of effective teaching to medical students and doctors in training and to the multidisciplinary team. Ability to present effectively to an audience using a variety of methods. Fitness to Practice - Occupational health clearance and satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the DBS. Required status to work in UK.

Experience

Essential

Experience in the management of a broad Acute Medicine caseload.

Desirable

Current ALS certificate or equivalent. Experience in a specialist interest that will complement those of other staff.
