BHSI has an exciting opportunity for a Property Underwriter based in our London offices to join our UK Property team with a focus on International Property markets and a specialism in Power.
Day-to-day responsibilities of this role include contribution towards the growth and build-out of the Property UK proposition across all relevant distribution channels, pre-qualifying accounts, utilising underwriting acumen to select risks within the company’s risk appetite and expanding and developing new business opportunities through engagement with brokers and customers.

You should be comfortable working closely with actuaries, the Claims team and underwriters from across the broader team. In addition, necessary character, relationship building and negotiating skills to help lead and further build a profitable book of business are of the upmost importance. The successful candidate will be focused on a positive customer experience, while maintaining sound underwriting discipline. This position is a great fit for a Property Underwriter looking to expand their responsibilities and underwriting knowledge with an experienced and well-regarded unit within a top global insurance company. You will have at least 3 years operational power experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Support the development and build-out of International Property that is consistent with the teams focus on profitable growth
Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships
Underwrite accounts while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation without sacrificing discipline, diligence and quality service
Underwrite challenging risks while developing creative solutions for our brokers and customers
Maintain awareness of the competitive environment and risk profile of the International Property market
Effectively communicate the BHSI value proposition
Be a positive reflection on the company by demonstrating integrity and leadership in the marketplace
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
3+ years of Operational Power Underwriting experience
Existing broker and customer relationships, or the experience and ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quickly
Strong underwriting acumen, including understanding deployment of nett capacity, Natural Catastrophe risk and profitability over top line growth
Experience and strong understanding of policy forms, including broker manuscripts; it’s coverage intent, structure and application – how it would respond in certain claim scenarios
Strong collaboration and team building skills
Strong communication skills including negotiation, communications and presentation experience and customer meeting experience with an ability to obtain valuable insights into company exposures via dialogue with senior executives
Degree or equivalent education, and/or relevant insurance qualifications
Some travel will be required
