Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

for a special school, which caters to young people aged 11-18 with

Social, Emotional and Mental Health

( SEMH ) needs in

Barnet . This role presents a unique opportunity for an experienced and motivated SEN professional to lead and support the school s SEN provision. As a

SENCO , you will be responsible for assessing and supporting students with diverse learning needs, managing a team of dedicated support staff, and liaising with teachers and parents to foster an inclusive learning environment. Responsibilities of a SENCO: Develop and implement comprehensive SEN policies and procedures. Conduct assessments and coordinate individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs. Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt curricula and teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning requirements. Provide training and support to teachers and staff on SEN-related issues. Liaise with parents, external agencies, and specialists to ensure cohesive support for students. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEN interventions and make necessary adjustments. Ensure all safeguarding and child protection protocols are strictly followed. Required Qualifications for a SENCO: Qualified Teacher Status ( QTS ) with specialized training in Special Educational Needs. Proven experience in a SENCO role within a UK educational setting. In-depth knowledge of SEN legislation and best practices. Strong organisational and leadership skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
