Financial Management - Assistant Divisional Accountant Band 6 Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the finance team as an Assistant Divisional Accountant. The role is within Corporate/Central department reporting directly to the Finance Manager and Assistant Director of Finance (Financial Management).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide support to the Finance Manager in the delivery of financial and statutory obligations of the Trust’s Financial Management function.

Specific responsibility for providing financial management information and support to Trust-wide departmental budgets.

Be a key member of the Trust’s Finance Department and contribute to the delivery of its overall objectives.

Work within a multidisciplinary team, discussing complex financial queries and issues with staff and budget holders.

Provide training where required to non-finance managers.

Responsible to the Finance Manager and will work towards agreed objectives and deadlines.

Expected to act independently in the management of day-to-day work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Develop relationships across the directorates and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.

Give high-level advice to colleagues in financial services on sensitive disputes over payments within Directorates.

Provide budget holders with financial information and advice routinely and in response to ad-hoc requests.

Support in the maintenance and reconciliation of the recurring and non-recurring budgetary position for both financial and manpower budgets monthly.

Monitor expenditure trends and budgetary performance, identifying their significance for budget holders.

Play a key role in the development of systems to monitor and maximise income opportunities within directorates.

Provide advice on current performance and trends, forecasting future trends based on service options identified by budget holders and management.

Provide training support to non-finance managers as part of the Trust's training and development programme.

Manage finance support staff within the Divisional Structure and coordinate information for effective management of the workload.

Support the Divisional Finance Team in providing financial information, analysis, and advice to budget holders.

Contribute to the completion of ad-hoc and monthly statutory returns.

Support in the compilation of financial information for Freedom of Information requests.

Play a key role in the development of systems and processes within the central team.

Person specification Qualifications

Educated to degree level or equivalent

Training towards CCAB professional qualification

Experience

Previous experience in a management accounts environment

Evidence of innovative approach in analysing and drawing conclusions from complex financial and performance data

Knowledge

Demonstrate knowledge of financial planning, budgetary strategy & control, NHS Trust financial regime, costing, and financial support to budget holders.

Corporate finance reporting

Evidence of achievement and success at a senior level in NHS finance

Skills

Highly numerate

Evidence of involvement in dealing with complex change issues

Understanding of structures of NHS

Knowledge of Acute Hospital Environment

Ability to lead & motivate staff

Decisive and able to use own judgement

Personal Attributes

Knowledge and understanding of HR policies

Willingness to work flexibly

Demonstrates commitment to staff development

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence
