Applications are invited to apply for the Consultant post in the Department of Neurosurgery based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford. The successful applicant will join a team of currently 13 substantive Adult and 4 Paediatric Neurosurgery Consultants. The focus of the post will be the management of Emergency and Elective Neurosurgical patients in Skull Base Neurosurgery. Appropriate administrative support will be provided for this post. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will take part in a 1:11 on-call rota with prospective cover. The postholder’s duties will be to provide in and outpatient care for Neurosurgical patients both Emergency and Elective, and subspecialty Skull base patients. Close working relationships with other members of the Neurosciences team will be necessary, including the Neuroradiology and Neurointensive care teams, the Skull Base MDTs, and Specialist Advanced Nurse Practitioners / OTs / Physiotherapists / Speech Therapists. The post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching undergraduate clinical students, training junior doctors, multidisciplinary teaching, and in clinical examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity. The post-holder’s contribution to teaching, training, and research will be included in the regular job plan review. Qualifications/Training

Full GMC registration with licence to practise FRCS (SN) or equivalent Higher medical degree On GMC specialist register Experience

Extensive training and experience in general adult neurosurgery. Fellowship(s) in Skull Base Neurosurgery. Evidence of ability to make independent decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems. Experience in complex skull base approaches. Experience in the NF2 service. Previous experience at Consultant Neurosurgeon level. Skills and Knowledge

Ability to lead a team of professionals Effective administrative and time management skills. Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to Clinical Governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities Experience of conducting clinical audits Leadership Qualification Teamworking qualification or course completed Training or experience in communication skills Interest in teaching with a portfolio of teaching and training achievements.
