Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine

We are delighted to seek applications for the post of Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) to join our team in Salisbury. This substantive position is a replacement post and the successful applicant will join the 7 existing Intensive Care Consultants who lead patient care in the intensive care unit (ICU), one of the premier services in this high performing Foundation Trust. The CQC have recently described Critical Care services as 'Outstanding' in Salisbury. Our Intensive Care Unit is housed in a modern facility containing 12 physical bed spaces, of which 10 are currently staffed to support a flexible mix of level 2 and level 3 patients. Interviews for this post will be on 12th December 2025. Main duties of the job

This is a 10 PA post, but it is likely that an additional programmed activity could be offered to the successful candidate. On average, 4.5 PA are delivered as DCC to ICU, a further 4 PAs of DCC are provided outside of ICU in the applicant's base specialty and 1.5 SPAs. The postholder may want to have time for research during DCC and this can be discussed with Clinical Leads and Clinical director on appointment. The proportion of SPA would increase in line with increasing responsibilities after appointment. Currently, 6 out of 7 of the ICU consultants also undertake regular sessions in the anaesthesia service. We would welcome applicants with a dual CCT qualification in Anaesthesia, Respiratory Medicine or Acute Medicine for this post, as well as consultants currently practising intensive care medicine who have CCT equivalent ICM experience and training. About us

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust (SFT) is an innovative hospital with a proud heritage and over 250 years of experience behind us. Here we're driven to deliver an outstanding experience for everyone and have been well regarded for the quality of care and treatment we continue to provide for our patients and also our staff. We are an acute Trust, rated 'Good' by the CQC, with a track record of high performance providing regional and super regional specialist services such as: Burns, Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery, Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory, Wessex Rehabilitation, Spires Cleft Centre and the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre. We have about 470 beds and employ over 4000 staff. We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. We think working here is pretty rewarding. You can access a range of NHS discounts, receive a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme. On-site benefits include car parking (fee applies), leisure centre, day nursery and holiday play scheme. Salisbury is an attractive place to live and work and really gives you the best of everything. With easy access to London and local airports, the city of Southampton is only a short train or car journey away or if you prefer the sea, Bournemouth is also accessible. Job responsibilities

The ICU admits approximately 400 patients per year, and these patients are a mixture of elective post-op surgery and emergency work for both medical and surgical specialties. 20% of the workload is from surgical patients. One ICU consultant is responsible for the unit at all times leading a team of resident medical staff and working closely with the nurse in charge. Duty periods are from Monday to Friday or Friday to Monday split equally between all consultants. Some weeknights are covered by colleagues in the weekday duty period. Please see attached Candidate Information Pack for full details. Person Specification
