We are recruiting for a Band 6 Costing Accountant role as a financial expert within our costing team to fill a vacancy based at Salisbury FT. This role will be employed by GWH Trust and based at Salisbury, but there will be flexibility to work at either Trust locations.

The costing teams at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust (SFT) and Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GWH) are working together to provide an insightful costing service into the Trusts. At both these Trusts, the finance departments pride themselves on being friendly and driven and on encouraging every team member to train, develop, and improve personally and professionally. Both departments are currently accredited at level 1 with Future Focused Finance and are on track to achieve Level 2.

Costing in the NHS is about finding out what happened to which patient at what cost. The team is responsible for calculating the cost of all the activities which the Trust provides. We prepare mandatory cost returns. We also prepare service line reports and cost information for finance and service managers to help with decision making and benchmarking.

We are fully engaged with NHS Improvement’s costing transformation programme, which is a key initiative in all Trusts and important for developing patient-level costing.

You will help manage and run the processes for producing the quarterly cost data. You will also proactively review and improve cost data by working with service teams in all disciplines, as well as very closely with the Trust’s finance and informatics teams.

“Our STAR values – Service, Teamwork, Ambition, and Respect – are a golden thread running through everything we do. These values serve as a guiding principle, driving us towards our vision of delivering great joined-up services to our local community. Whether at home, in the community, or within the hospital, our goal is to empower individuals to lead independent and healthier lives.”

As Costing Accountant, the postholder will take responsibility for one Trust’s costing system. The postholder will build a general level of understanding of the other Trust’s system to provide cover and resilience as necessary.

The post holder will maintain the Trust’s costing system to provide high-quality data to support the Senior Finance Team, Divisional Directors/Managers, and Clinical Managers in all aspects of costing.

The post holder will provide cost data to support services with productivity review, benchmarking, planning, and improved financial management of the Trust’s activities.

The post holder will produce the annual integrated national cost collection, a mandatory submission for all Trusts.
