An opportunity has arisen for an experienced supervisor to join the Domestic services department. The role of the domestic supervisor is critical in ensuring that the required standards of cleaning within a healthcare environment are adhered to.
A can-do attitude is key. Knowledge and experience of supervising a cleaning service is essential, and any experience within healthcare would be beneficial. The ability to work as part of a large team is also essential, as is the need for flexibility to meet the ever-changing needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
Provide direct supervision and organization of a team of domestic staff.
Arrange cover for absences and untoward incidents and facilitate adjustments of work schedules to meet service needs.
Ensure all staff are working to trust policies and are properly instructed and trained in the use of equipment and techniques required to provide a clean and safe environment.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Supervise the performance of staff to ensure adherence to approved standard operating procedures in delivering cleaning services.
Ensure the team operates at all times to the highest standards of customer care, safety, and efficiency.
Cover absences within the supervision team and complete relevant documentation.
Sanction domestic holidays while maintaining agreed levels.
Ensure all cleaning requests from Infection Control are followed and documented.
Attend relevant training courses, even outside normal shift times.
Support staff with effective induction and job-specific training.
Arrange short-term absence cover to ensure all areas are covered.
Liaise with service users and local managers over service delivery issues.
Complete regular quality control checks and undertake remedial action where necessary.
Conduct risk assessments for new tasks and supply these to line managers.
Monitor and control the usage and storage of cleaning consumables.
Conduct staff interviews, including appraisal and discipline, in accordance with Trust policy.
Demonstrate leadership and act as a role model for subordinate staff.
Person specification Qualifications
NVQ Level 3 in leadership (or equivalent).
Experience
Previous cleaning experience at a supervisory level.
Previous experience of cleaning within a healthcare environment.
Knowledge
Understanding of C.O.S.H.H. regulations.
Basic knowledge of health and safety.
Understanding of operating cleaning machinery.
Skills
Basic data inputting skills.
Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Other
Willingness to study for NVQ level 3 in leadership.
Ability and willingness to undertake further training as necessary.
