An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Selby Community Therapy Team, for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our team.

We are a dynamic, patient-focused rehabilitation service, supporting people in their own homes. The service runs 5 days a week, 8am-4pm.

You will be responsible for providing both holistic assessments, as well as specialist occupational therapy treatment and management of patients, providing rehabilitation to patients in their own homes as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team of physios and Generic Therapy Assistants.

The team works closely with all partners, including hospital wards, GP's, A& E, Social Services, and the voluntary sector, supporting hospital discharges and preventing unnecessary admissions.

You will have the opportunity to undertake a wide variety of tasks. You must have excellent communication and organisational skills, work flexibly and be a strong team player. You will be expected to provide support to students and junior members of staff.

You are required to have access to a vehicle that can be used for business purposes and hold a full and valid driving licence (role will involve travel to numerous addresses that cannot be easily accessed by public transport means).

Main duties of the job

To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with diverse or complex/multi pathology presentations. Specialist functional assessment of cognitive, perceptual, sensory and motor skills, which may include the use of standardised testing. Use advanced clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques, to provide an accurate treatment plan and to evaluate any intervention.

To formulate and deliver a specialist, individual, goal-orientated treatment programme based on sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using assessment, clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment.

To ensure a holistic approach to the overall care and rehabilitation of patients within the intermediate care and fast response service.

To be responsible for organising and planning own caseload, to meet service and patient priorities. Readjusting plans as situations change/arise. Delegate duties to other members of staff as appropriate.

To identify work-related risk to staff and patients and inform Senior staff as necessary.

Person Specification

Education

Essential HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist.

Desirable Evidence of recognised post-graduate training within specialist area.

Experience and Knowledge Required

Essential Evidence of a minimum 2 years experience in a relevant junior role, including the management of a range of conditions, with evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision.

Desirable Experience of training/supporting others (including students) within the specialist clinical area.

Skills and Attributes

Essential Ability to work as an effective member of multidisciplinary team. Ability to present information, written and verbally in a clear and logical manner. Ability to organise and prioritise.

Desirable Ability to use different communication methods and styles, relevant to specialty.

Aptitude and Personal Qualities

Essential Flexible & adaptable.
