An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Service Manager to be responsible for delivering high quality effective services consistent with the priorities and vision for the Council, the needs of the Directorate, legislation, and national priorities. This is a challenging role with a remit which incorporates the full range of resources across the service including strategic and operational planning, infrastructure, business management, finance, administration, management of data and provision of support services to schools. We are looking for an appropriately qualified professional with skills in leadership and management and a proven track record of achievement. Reporting to the Head of Community, Learning, Leisure and Housing, this post offers an opportunity to play a key role in operational and strategic leadership, contributing to the development of the Service. In addition, the Service Manager (Resources) leads on a number of Education Leisure and Housing service-wide tasks such as complaints, performance, strategy, risk management, emergency planning and business continuity. The successful candidate will need to be effective in partnership and collaborative working; able to lead, motivate and manage teams; and be a confident, clear communicator. We expect high standards and support continuing professional development. Training opportunities are made available and a suitable package including a relocation allowance is provided to assist with resettlement. The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent SCQF level 9 qualification in a subject relevant to one of the areas within the remit of the post. Ability to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service. This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
